I've been trying to figure out why my wife's Jeep doesn't have the same door handle issue the Chargers and Challengers do.

Then I actually looked at it.

Here's my door handle.

Here's the Jeep handle.

So, now I'm wondering, is this going to be our door handle fix?

For those who don't know about the issue, apparently water gets in around the button, causing all kinds of functional problems. Many report it stop working altogether. Some, myself included, have had the car lock and unlock without even touching the car.

my wife had a similar problem with her Vue. the first replacement was painted to match by the de3alers body shop. When Saturn realized the scope of the problem they wanted to replace them with chrome plated ones so they would not have to paint them. Wife blew a gasket, still have the problem and get monthly letters telling us we need to have them replaced for safety reason. No way they are putting chrome handles on her red Vue.

just saying make sure of what they are going to do BEFORE they touch your car.

Not sure why they even bother with a lock button on the outside. You can lock the car with the inside door lock button before you leave the car or use the fob. Why a 3rd way to lock the door was added, don't get it.

I've never used the outside button myself, don't even know or care if it works. I would be concerned if I found out my car was unlocking itself. So far, that hasn't happened. And mine has been washed numerous times and been out in the rain more than a dozen times.

You are fortunate.

So far I am. I always hate posting that I've never seen an issue or something like that, because right after you do that, you'll then have the same problem as others.

I have twice came out after work reached for the door handle and noticed the car was unlocked. Both times I couldn't convince myself that I hadn't actually touched the handle first or not. I'll just keep an eye on it. A car that may unlock itself is a concern. I'd be happy if they came out with new handles without any button - as I still don't see the need for it at all.

Car makers and a lot of people love technology... however.. with examples like this Chrysler gets dinged, ticks off a bunch of would be happy owners, JD Power ratings go down, they have to pay the dealerships to replace the part...etc... all in the name of advancing technology.

Out of all of the people these problems are effecting how many people in the old days returned to the dealership with a metal tried and true key saying that they cannot get into their car or the car unlocks itself? I say, the old simple method worked just fine and was simpler and cheaper to implement.

I agree. That's one reason I wanted a 27F car. What would be really cool is if Dodge offered a 27F version of the SRT8 (cloth seats, no automatic climate control or headlights, no electronics package or MyGIG, and 18" wheels). :D

Then you lose your Brembos. As much as I've thought about going to 18 inchers, not being able to put a good set of brakes on mine has kept me out of that territory. Anybody got any good ideas?

Oh great, another issue to look forward to on my 2011...maybe Dodge's poor reputation is justified. I tried to look past the rep and decided to formulate my own opinion after I purchased my 2011 RT....so far not so good, and now this too. I say just remove the button and have the doors lock automatically when the fob isnt sensed like my Z06 does, or put the button under the handle not on top of it.

hmmm I would hope they color match it cause it will wreck the lines of the car imo
technology is nice but the more things than can break will break

Having an rt classic, flat black would be okay. But color match is how they need to go. They try chrome and I'll just live without the feature.

BTW, I'm sitting at the dealer having both handles replaced as I type this. I asked them to do the grease on the connectors. We'll see.

My dealership made a big deal of the locking button and I have to say other than trying it once right after getting it I have never used it I use the button on the inside door panel. I haven't had the issues that some have but my car is always garaged other than when I go somewhere and have been out when it has rained and haven't had any problems yet hope everyone gets there issues taken care of to their satisfaction.
