I just had a local muffler shop delete the mid mufflers on my 2017 R/T automatic. I have to say I am very pleased with the results! It cost me $150.

The result is very much like the factory sound, but louder. There is a bit of rasp or buzz under heavy acceleration load, but I don’t think it’s too bad. Since I left the resonators intact, there is no noticeable drone.

Im glad your happy with your mid-muffler delete! I recently visited my college friend in San Jose and was able to hear his active exaust on his 2017 t/a 5.7 rt car. Man what a difference between his active exaust and the one that came with my 2015 RT A8.

Now I also did the mid-muffler delete on my exaust and it added a louder bark. But after having my car next to his there's really no comparison. Was now thinking of buying a catback and based on my research was thinking of going Solo! Based on what I see it acts in the same manner quiet during crusing and loud when in WOT. Thoughts?

Thanks for the compliments. After a bit of spirited driving last night, I have decided that it’s good for now, but I will probably add some Dynomax or maybe Black Widow mufflers eventually. The high pitched buzzing is pretty pronounced above 4K RPM, and a performance muffler should fix that without quieting it down too much. It sounds amazing at lower RPM, though.

PFJsCustoms: I don’t really have an opinion on the Solo, as I’m not familiar with it. In general, I would say that a performance muffler or cat back system will likely always sound better than just deleting the mids, as evidenced by my above statements. Also, keep in mind that the 2017+ with active exhaust (like my car) has 2.75” pipe, whereas I believe your car has 2.5”, so that will also affect the sound.

After talking to the shop that did my mid muffler delete about the buzzing at high RPM, he recommended replacing the rear resonators with Flowmaster 40s. Has anyone done this? How was it? Did it add any drone?

Thanks for your input Mobiuscorpus! Yeah I believe the current size of the stock exaust pipe is 2.25" the Solo system comes in 2.5" Thus the expected increase in the engines roar!
