Went to install the Mopar hood pins I picked up last week. I got halfway
thru and had to stop as the guide bit for the 1 1/4" hole saw I have wasn't
long enough to contact hood before the edge. Wasn't going to risk messing
that up so I'll finish up next weekend.

Here's a few photos of how far I got.

Plate install

Drilled out the radiator covers (fyi, if you buy this set drill out with 1 1/4"
hole saw not the 1" the instructions say. Must have been written before
they included the rubber grommet as they don't mention them anywhere).

Oh hey, whose signature is that from Spring Festival??

looks great so far, how did you mark the hole for the plastic headlight cover? I was thinking about using lip stick to put all over the metal mounting piece then installing the plastic light cover over it.

Pull it off and drill where the lipstick is

Problem with that is it isn't smooth underneath where the hole goes. It's the
spot where they date code the part etc and there is raised writing and a grid
with #'s etc. I was going to do the same thing. I removed the pin and put
the covers on and lined it up as best I could. I was actually a couple of mm's
off but used an exacto knife to trim a little. The grommets makes it a little
forgiving if your just a little off.

Thanks for the tips, I don't have the mopar hood pins, I have the mr. norms, they look almost in the same location. I will do my best and get it lined up.

Is there a mopar part number for this item? I didn't realize these were even available. I would like to see how they look with the hood closed, just to get an idea of where they sit. Please keep us informed of your install and post pics of the finished product.

There are 2 actually.

P5155755 is for the set with the black chrome
P5155774 is for the set with regular chrome

I'll also attach a photo of where they sit. Not my car but you can see the
positioning.

When I get this finished I'll update my first post with more pix and any tips.
The instructions that come with them are pretty good.

Got the hood pins finished up after work. I'll get some better pics tomorrow when
it's light out.

Nice work Bro,

Any other issues you ran into or any advice to make the install go smoothly?

These pins sit at the perfect location on the hood.
Yeah IMO they sit exactly where they should be, most others I've seen
sit to far up the hood.

Thanks. Like almost anything else, measure, measure and measure again, then
cut lol. The scariest part was cutting my hood. One thing, I used a little dab of
paint on the pin tips to mark the underside of the hood for drilling. I should have
used less, it made a pretty big dot and made it hard to judge where exactly the
center was. In the end no big deal as there is a little room for error. Also have
a good grip on your drill as the hole saw bit is about to make contact, it really
wants to bind as it cuts since the hood is curved where your drilling. Lastly, to
place the black Mopar medallions(??) I ran some blue painters tape from one fender
to the other in front of the pins so I'd have a straight line get the Mopar logos to
line up.

Funny thing this morning. My wife actually noticed them when leaving this morning,
said "hey those look good, my old boyfriend used to have those on his 69 Mustang".
My response "uh honey, that was me". We both got a good laugh.

Here's some more pix.

The hood pins look great guys, but one word of caution.

The lanyards, in time, will wear away your car's paint where they wrap around the leading edge of the hood. I know because it happened with my 71 'Cuda.

Instead, I would recommend locking hood pins. See:

Mr Gasket Locking Hood Pins
If people are worried about the lanyard wear, I am sure they can put a small strip of clear 3m on that spot. I like the lanyards, adds to the look.

The Mopar pins look great.

I have an AFR shaker hood and would like to get them, but it look like the accent line on the front portion of my hood may extend a bit further to the side than the on stock hood. To preclude purchasing a pin kit that might end up on the uneven area of the accent line, could I trouble you to measure from the side & front edge of the hood to the pin for me? Thanks!
