I'm a little surprised they were real drive 3.7 seconds 0 to 60 but could only manage an 11.7 Quartermile. I'll say it again they should've put on those P corsa zero from the Viper, none of this all season tire crap. I know there's guys saying the GT500 has crappy tires factory but they're a lot better than all season tires. Also I think it's really stupid that they do their testing on a regular road. If you're going to quarter-mile testing why wouldn't you do it at a dragstrip and get true times. They need to do a head-to-head and bring the cars to a true dragstrip none of this bullshit street testing. I did notice the trap speeds were identical though. Interested to see a head to head comparison.

What really stands out to me here is Jonny Lieberman's opinion on the car. He gets to drive pretty much everything, and for him to use such positive words in talking about the Hellcat is a big deal. Especially considering he'd take one over an F12 Berlinetta, GT500, ZL1, and even Viper.

What really stands out to me here is Johnny Lieberman's opinion on the car. He gets to drive pretty much everything, and for him to use such positive words in talking about the Hellcat is a big deal. Especially considering he'd take one over an F12 Berlinetta, GT500, ZL1, and even Viper.

I agree with you it'll run much better times with better tires. Ya he did seem to really enjoy and like the car, so that's great to hear. I'm going to just get the stock all season tires, and as soon as I get one within 1000 miles I'll have new sticky tires!

I'd disagree, from a roll I'd say gt500 has edge but stand still I highly doubt guys are launching gt500 on the street better. When's the last time you did a 1/4 mile race on the street! I've never lined up with a guy on the street and been like ok 1/4 mile!!! I bet on the street (especially without launch control) you'd outrun most gt500 before you slow down. Time will tell!!!

Glad to see the positive comments from Motor Trend, they can be rather biased... it's also worth noting that they got those numbers, not only on the street, but starting in 2nd gear without LC. Sticky tires with driver mod and starting in first, on a real track, with or without launch control, should give some interesting times.

I saw one review where they say the Challenger only ran a 12 second 1/4 mile...then go on to say how that is what the COMPUTER told them...I laughed out loud when I read that...so not only did they not take it to the track...the put in their magazine that the computer told them it was a 12 second 1/4 LOL

I know!!! Funny thing is edmunds was able to run an 11.4 based on the in car computer!!!

The computer should be fairly accurate on these now that they pull speed from the front wheel instead of the rear wheel. Wheel spin will not have an effect anymore.

What I mean is that they tested the GT500 and ran an 11.6. On the street, who the hell knows, one guy might be running DRs and the other is not. 6SPD vs. 6SPD from a roll, that will be close. From a dig, 6SPD vs. 6SPD, I'd put money on the GT500 all day. On a drag strip, I'd again put money on the GT500. The Hellcat will be HELL to drive. My point, the hype will/has backfired. Before any numbers have come in, most would have agreed that the Hellcat was the quickest, not anymore. I was hoping, something I should not have done, that the Hellcat would have done better in the MT test. 11.7 is nothing to write home about IMO. 11.2, definitely the quickest without any debate. That was a short honeymoon, lol. Just wait for the much lighter GT350 to race the Hellcat and win, oh well, I'd still hock my left kidney for one.

Where does it say Motor Trend tested it with the all-season crappy tires? I thought the Hellcat had an upgraded option for high performance tires: 275/40ZR20 TIRES (TN2) $395 (Summer High Performance Tires) <--- are these the all-season?

I dunno. I'm confused.

That said, the Hellcat still handles like a Challenger. Navigating the Challenger through curvy parts of the road or track is, ahem, challenging, while straightaways are a breeze. The Hellcat just does the latter much, much faster.

I dunno. I'm confused.

You know what I miss read it, they wrote it was on P zeros, well the Pirelli Zero Nero comes in all season or summer, so they didn't specify.

Sounds like a good verdict to me. Yes, the Hellcat will not decimate all on a road-course, we know that. And if you try to make it a track-day car, as the article rightly points out, you're missing the point. With that said, even though on paper you'd think it wouldn't handle well, it actually does:

"If you really must know, the Hellcat can be wanged around our figure-eight course in 24.7 seconds. That's the exact same time as an Alfa Romeo 4C, actually."
