LOL

I to am having the same issue and just out of pride I am fighting the fight of trying to correct people. I know its pointless though, I went through the same struggle with my 87 Buick Grand National. I was constantly approached by people wanting to compliment my Monte Carlo. I corrected people for awhile but gave in eventually and just said thanks. I even had a judge at a local car show give me the old " Nice Monte Carlo". I just said thanks and took home my trophy.

This hasn't happened to me since... umm... yesterday afternoon. I try not to let it bother me too much. They mean well.

Hey, I wouldn't mind. The new Challenger looks more like the old Charger than a new Charger looks like the old Charger...
Thats a really good point stryder09 and agree 100%.:bigthumb: With that in mind, I often wonder if the Charger owners get the same compliment:scratchhead:
As for the people who seem to think Challengers are something other than Challengers. I suppose the knee jerk reaction is to correct these people who are mistaken, but in the end they are actually complimenting us on a nice looking __________ (insert car model:)). Ultimately, a compliment is still a compliment.:bigthumb:

Respond by saying "Actually, it's a Lamborghini Diablo." When they say "No it isn't", tell them to go look at the grill, where they'll see the Challenger badge.

yeah its really not that big a deal. i kinda laugh it off.

what's even funnier is when you have changed the thing enough that someone comes over and ask you what kinda car is it and you can tell them " the same one your driving"

Mine's Hemi Orange - a while back, I used to get comments "have you thought about putting the large '01' on the doors"

My silence and stare back told them all they needed to know about that comment.

I have the vintage hood stripe and '70 R/T bodyside stripes on mine - Chargers never had that type of graphics, ever.

Hasn't happened to me, but I wouldn't mind if it did. Most people are not enthusiasts and they don't always know the difference. Main thing is that they like "your" car, regardless of what it is....

I think that is the crucial detail that we are missing when we get that offended sensation after somebody likens our car to a "Charger". They really are paying a sincere compliment, in that context. Would anybody even know the "Charger" name if it wasn't for the old one? We take offense for being confused with the new one, which spent a looooong time being an abomination of anything representing the namesake of the original or even the much-vaunted Charger Concept. It's a cutting remark if the issuer actually means to reference the new one, but if it is actually in reference to the old one, the connection becomes completely understandable and complementary, imo. Our Challengers are truly the champions of carrying-on the torch of that vintage muscle car look into the modern age.

It could be worse...somebody could say, "Nice Camaro!" That's happened to me a few times. ;) If you could see the thought cloud over my head, it would read, "Wtf, dude?!"

A compliment is a compliment,

I gave up trying to educate the general public on the difference between a Challenger and a Charger.

All they know is it's a good looking car that turned their head.

Now I just smile and say thank you and don't elaborate further.

I get the nice (fill in the blank) quite often but what I really like is that is a nice restoration. Makes me feel good that people still remember what cars are supposed to look like. When I tell them that it is new, most people are shocked and that usually leads into a nice conversation.

Yes, I've had a few instances where people actually thought my car was a restoration. That's what eventually gave me the clue that what people were keying into was not anything to do with new American performance cars (Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, Charger, whatever) or just not being able to distinguish between nameplates. They were responding to a particular likeness that cars achieved in that late 60's/early 70's era. That likeness is just generically known as a "Charger", for not even knowing what an actual Charger looks like. It is essentially equivalent to saying, "nice 70's muscle car", except using the term "Charger" rolls off smoother (like it has reached a household word status).
