So Last week while getting my State Inspection(WV) I ask the guy who to get to install my mufflers! I aske dfor their opinion on either the super 40's or super 44's, guy come back and says yeah super 40's is the way to go! I say awesome, he takes me into the garage area and introduces me to the other mechanic who said super 40's way to go. He starts showing me where they go,lol, and got my first real look @ her underneath! He showed me the muffler I say awesome! and we discuss the resonators and glass packs and he said if it was him he'd drive it with the mufflers 1st and then take it step by step, I agreed and left!

Today 1 week later I go back to get in done, they install and it looks great! sounds almost as week as stock just with a lil more pur to it! I drive it home let my wife listen to it and we both say cut Res off. I see the part number for exhaust and look it up 43043 is the original 40's not the Super 40's:(! I go to Advance auto and look it up in their book same thing! :disgust:

I go back their and talk to owner who becomes *******ish! then both guys I talked to say they told me original 40's like I'd made up the whole thing! Owner said he's never heard or stocked the Super 40's but monday he will call his supplier and get them if he can, but I got to pay the difference in the muffler and he'll take off the original and swap them out...

SO should I be happy with this and pay the difference or should i argue that I paid and was quoted for something I didnt get?

Plus I jus need to vent, lol

I would be pissed but unfortunately if you did not get the quote in writing with the part number, description and price you will not have a leg to stand on. As it is your word against theirs. I would bet the guys in the shop originally looked up the wrong part number and got the lower priced item. Then when they figured what they had done they did not want to eat the difference so are covering their butt.

If you can work with the shop and the owner, and they did a good job originally, then get them to correct it and don't go there again. Find yourself a different shop that can then do any other modifications for you until you get the sound you want.

Now if you did get a written quote then you got something to talk and argue about.

Depends on how you want it to sound, auto or manual? If it's a 6 speed I'd cut off the resonators and you're there, you could have done that first and that would have upped the sound perfectly.
If its an automatic nothing you can do will make it growl with the stock giant resonators, they quite down everything. You need some kind of resonator with an auto or it will drone which may or may not bother you. At this point if I were you I'd get a set of blastin bobs resonated glasspacks to replace the stock resonators with, ($193) with the flowmasters it will sound good, kinda loud when you put your foot in it.
I did straight blastin bobs resonators delete kit on my 6 speed and it sounds great. Then I did a cat back corsa xtreme exhaust on my auto r/t so I've done both. If you want more under the hood hemi growl go with a K & N drop in air filter. The auto exhaust is a pisser to get it right. The resonators flat kill the sound so they got to go one way or another. For $100 your shop could cut them off, put a piece of straight pipe in their place, you'll have hemi music and the drone may not bother you. With no experience with flowmasters I don't think the change you want will do anything, it's those damn resonators !

It sounds like they are not going to charge you any labor to swap in the Super 40's, just the difference in price? If so, that's about the best outcome you can hope for unless you have a written price quote showing the Super 40s not the original 40 mufflers. Mistakes and misunderstandings can happen. It appears they are eating the labor to swap the mufflers, so they now have slightly used mufflers to deal with and extra labor in the deal, so not like the shop is enjoying the situation...

My wife's furious fuchsia 6 speed with the K & N drop in and blastin bobs resonator delete is absolutely perfect, wouldn't want it any louder. My R/T automatic has a Corsa Xtreme cat back with the MOPAR CAI. So about $200 vs. $1350, guess what? The 6 speed is louder than the Corsa, maybe the Corsa is still breaking in as the 6 speed did get louder after a couple of hundred miles. No cheap short cuts on the automatic without inducing drone, Corsa is a guaranteed no drone system that's why I parted with the money. The 6 speed is a little more raw sounding, happy with both however.
