Peeps,

Just got my SRT8 Core last night and did 3 things that may have triggered so any guidance would be appreciated. Will head to autozone in a bit to have them read it. Here's what I did this AM that may have thrown it but open to any all advice. Again just got the beast last night! LOL

- Gassed it up putting in some octane booster and 91 octane. (Dealer put in lower grade gas). Might have been a lose gas cap so triple checked this and the cap seems to be on fine, no issues.

- Popped the oil lid and put in some oil protectant/lubricant (do this with all my cars) but made sure the oil cap was back on seated properly and tightly.

- Coming home from the gas station, dropped the hammer on it in track mode, in first gear with traction control on, and for a good 1-2 seconds, the car did absolutely nothing (no acceleration) so my guess traction control intervened heavily.

Checked the gas cap, oil cap all is well, so assuming me putting the hammer down on it might have triggered the CEL?

Just got it so having a little fun! :D

Thanks in advance.

I had my 1st check engine light last week P0456 small leak took it to the dealer cleared it checked the gas cap and has not returned, most of the time it is that cap it might be that simple.

Gotcha, thanks. Will have the code read in a bit, but it could be that. First time I gassed it up!

Thanks again.

Yeah it's weird just took it for a spin around the block with the CEL still on and when I put my foot in it, the car would not let me rev above, 3500 RPM where it just completely cuts out. I mean my foot is firmly on the gas pedal and right when it hits 3,500 RPM all acceleration/power simply stops until I take my foot off the accelerator the RPM drops a bit then I have power again.

Any idea what is causing this? Again just got the car a day ago and haven't abused it. I've tripled checked the gas cap MULTIPLE times as well. Hate to have to take it back to the dealer after I just got it! LOL

That would not be the gas cap, if it was it would not have any impact on the engine revs, you need to take it in and get the dealer to take care of it.

Are you manual or automatic transmission?

I have an automatic and made an appointment with the dealer tomorrow in the AM so see what's going on.

Sounds like you're in limp mode and your ECU is limiting the revs. Will definitely need the dealership to solve this issue. Did it do it before you put the gas in?

Disconnect your battery for about 5 min then hook it back up and see if it is still doing that. That will reset your factory engine settings usually. Sounds like it might have went into safe mode.

Good luck

OK had the code pulled at Pep Boys and the code was the cam sensor error on bank 1 and cam sensor slow to respond on bank 2. I didn't write down the codes as I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow in the AM.

It's still under warranty but does anyone have any information about this type of sensor error?

Thanks.

If you haven't already disconnected your battery, you can turn the ignition from ACC to ON 3 times within 15 seconds, leaving it in the ON position the third time, and that will show you whatever codes are still logged in the digital instrument cluster display. That'll at least give you something specific to research.

Ok Dealer said it was a, "Cam Phaser" issue where it's out of alignment or they're could be some debris in there so they have to keep it over night and pull the front end of the motor off to fix it.

Could putting Octane booster, or the engine oil additive I put in over the weekend have done this? I've used these sorts of additives with my cars in the past with zero issues (Even my E55 AMG, which had a very high tech engine and was tuned to 650HP), or am I just being paranoid?

He said it could be the timing chain as well, but didn't think it was based on the codes. Either way, it's all covered under warranty but please let me know if I shouldn't put in Octane booster or oil additives/lubricants going forward.

Brand new owner here.

Thanks in advance.
