Crap, I don't want that. Come on Chrysler, how about a backup camera, instead?
Then it would have to be tied to the touch screen package, right? If you made the backup camera standard, then the touch screen package would have to be standard, which would raise the base price. Of course, the backup camera could be an option tied to the touch screen package, similar to other required combinations.

I don't own a Challenger yet, but if and when I buy one, it'll likely be used and at least backup camera-ready. It would be great for me if a backup camera was a factory option because it would likely mean that more used Challengers would have the backup camera and Lockpick-like device installed.

Backup sensors are ugly, like bullet holes.

On the other hand, the 2012 flat bottom steering wheel has the potential to look nice, especially if the double red hashmark Dodge logo appears on it.

They could tie the back up camera on the mirror like Ford did with it's Taurus instead of the touch screen that way it won't have to be part of the package...know what I mean?

It it just me or does anyone else on this forum think the 2012 srt8 steering wheel (a la Charger) looks like something you'd see as an optional accessory for a Sony PlayStation. The ginormous horn button reminds me of a fisher-price squeaky toy I had, except that IT was yellow. I love these cars, don't get me wrong, but that monstrosity is the only thing deterring me from ordering a 2012 this minute. (oh, that and about $10k more in the bank account) :)
Yep, don't like looks the 2012 Charger wheel.

I liked the 2011 Challenger wheel much better than the 2010 Challenger wheel.

The 2012 wheel seems like a return to the 2010 styling to me.

Hi, I'm new here guys. My names Phil and I'm from Toronto, Canada. I'm very much interested in getting a Challenger but I'm the type of guy that wants the top of the line with all the toys and highest hp. I am wondering if I should wait or just get a 2012.

I have been following this thread for a while now and watching for anything RS says on here. He's a very reliable source and I think this community is lucky to have someone like him on here helping enthusiasts.

Now I have a question towards RS (or anyone who can help answer)... do you think Dodge will bump the HP/Torque on the challengers srt8 before the end of its life cycle in 2014?

Thank you :)

They'll almost certainly add 5-10 hp in the next couple of years, but honestly it would be hardly noticable and you'll probably be able to buy whatever part it is that they change (or buy aftermarket replacements that will show even more gains). The life of the 5.7L hemi has gone from 345 hp up to 390 hp in the trucks over the last 8 years with the block being basically unchanged. They just slowly step it up over time with little changes here and there. The 392 crate motor was making something like 505 hp. They tuned it down a little for the production SRTs for longevity. The hp is there for the taking. As for a huge jump, I'd doubt you'll see much in the next 3 years at least, unless they spring a supercharger on us. A factory S/C wont be nearly as powerful as aftermarket, so if you plan to go forced induction, that would be no reason to wait.

Phillie86, you'll wait for ever. I'm sure the SRT guys are shaking the Chrysler tree every day for a bigger budget/allowance to improve the lineup and make special editions. With the GT350 and the new camaro model, I'm wouldn't be surprised if a T/A or ACR shows up. We just won't know what's the greatest until the end and then it's too late.

The major change with the 5.7 was going with VCT and the Eagle head design for the 2009+ engine which increased the comp. ratio over the 2005-2010 6.1 head design.

The crate 392 engine was not emissions legal in that setup, so it wasn't going to appear in the crate engine spec. The engineers also tweaked the 392 to provide more mid-range power [above the 6.1 in the same operating ranges] rather than tune for an all-out top rpm peak hp figure on the new engine.

There was owner feedback that the 6.1 was peaky in power output, and with the new 392, the engineers went about putting power in more usable rpm ranges for the real-world driving on the street.

There's likely more power to be found in the 392, but this might require consistently higher grades of gasoline to stay in the safe range w/o spark knock retard kicking in to protect the internals.

Video describes how active dampening works. I wonder if this is how it's achieved with the 2012 lineup.

Yeah, that first drive video was weak. The car produces its own sweet music, screw the soundtrack, and is better looking than windmill-covered desert. He didn't tell us anything we didn't already know from the 2011 and earlier models. And what's the deal with shots of the new steering wheel? Every time we get to see it here and elsewhere, it's from a distance or sharp angle or in this case cut off above the flat bottom, the key difference from the 2011 wheel. I want a close up view of the new wheel, straight on, inside a 2012 Challenger SRT8. Regardless, I want that car bad, and I'm not a banker or a politician. :)

Agree! Just want to hear the car, period. Forget the wind chimes and the windmills. Not sure what they were thinking when they made that video?:scratchhead:
