Sometimes just after getting an exhaust system installed the innitial impression is an excessively loud sound, but typically that fealing goes away over time.

If you have a lot of drone, then that fealing may never go away.

This is very interesting. I have not heard any 3.5L exhaust sound like those 1.5L Hondas? In fact Magnaflows 4 and 6 cylender exhaust systems typically are quieter than most aftermarket systems eleminating drone, "ricer" sound, etc.

I made a video of my 3.5L with no exhaust system, open after the cats, and it was deap and loud, no hihg pich honda / rice sound.

Please elaborate, or maybe do a video.

Personally I find even the flowmasters on a v6 to sound good, a bit louder than magnaflow though.

I did install chery bomb vortex on the 3.5L and that was bad. Highway drone was bad, and even though it out flows glaspacks, thats righ out flows glaspacks, it didnt increase hp power over the more restrictive magnaflows, so I went back to the quieter magnaflows.

Could you post a link to the "true duals" or did you put on a exhaust ment for a R/T?

hmmmm. sorry to hear that, I hope you removed the resonators, I did on mine, also used the Maganflow mufflers #12226. had a good sound with mine and hardly no drone. understand, you are not going to get a v8 sound from this engine.

Slawdog, what model Magnaflows did you put on? I didn't think they did "true duals" for the 3.5. Mine is a Y pipe. My sound changed just a little. It will never be that full exhaust sound like the old hot rods. Mine is just a little fuller, sort of a hum. Disappointed, yeah, but it looks cool with the dual quads. A thousand bucks cool, maybe not.

Well instead of going one in and two out with the mufflers in the middle of the car like a cat back, The installer ran pipes all the way back to the rear and installed the mufflers right behind the bumper. It doesnt sound so bad outside it's the drone inside tht sounds terrible.

which muffler did you use? If this is a straight through design and I hope it was at least offset in / out. If not there is no way to control drone. This is only a 3.5 liter engine so dual exhaust is overkill, meaning you just can't toss on dual 2.5". If it were me I'd look at dual 2.25" with this muffler on each side:

you can do a search on my early post where I talk about long wave propagation. In a nutshell if it is straight through a wave aka drone will pass through the system. There is a vendor on this board (goingsolo2)that has a unique J pipe solution to dead end the wave. Akin to Helmholtz resonation chambers that are used in most OEM intakes,

There are many reasons why purchasing a full cat back kit. One of which is its designed with drone reduction / elemination in mind. Simply replacing the muffler with a different one and having it welded in is an innexpensive route, but typically isnt the best route. Having a new system built without engineering, and prototyping can yeald poor results sound wise.

The cat back package will cost more, but is easier to install, doesnt modify the stock system, and is engineered to do what we want.

For my 3.5L I went with the single tip Cat back system because the dual's are strickly for looks, as they y appart, and like oldman said true duals arent needed for performance. The magnaflow cat back systems have such low drone most say they dont have any.

My magnas are C/Off and 14+20 like mine but my bodies are 4+9 while yours are 5+8(bigger).Your in/out are 2.5(bigger pipes).Your model is 12226.My in/out is 2.25.Your solution would be to change the dual pipes to 2.25 and change to my model which is 11225.I bet it would elimnate drone ,lower sound while giving a deep v8ish sound while increasing back pressure for no loss of pickup. My Magnas sound really low but deep and no drone w/pretty quiet inside.I love it.

dual 2" would have given 25+% flow area over stock good for say 275 to 320 HP, dual 2.25 is 60% over good for gee duuno 350HP, dual 2.5 is 100% over stock and that should be good to like 400 HP, considering the free flow mufflers. The offset helps but the muffler should be long enough and tube size small enough so the wave hits the inner core. Your muffler is so short 8" and tube is so large that if must be easy to see straight through the bad boy and if you can see through it rest assured long waves will travel through too.

I don't know how the factory center box muffler works, that said: putting straight through resonators, which will be nothing more than glasspacks is not going to cut drone much, no straight through system will, we are talking about a long low resonation wave, these pass easily through straight through systems, V8 with more pulses, smaller pipe, longer mufflers, H or X pipes all help reduce the wave. The little V6 just can't use an exhaust that big without a significant drop in velocity. You need 2.25 or even 2.0 mufflers that are offset enough to allowthe wave to hit the inner tube of the muffler before it exits. Meaning larger offsets, smaller tube and / or longer muffler). Do a search on my exhaust post, it is all there. I have Magnaflo mufflers and note tht they are offset enough and the quad tips off set the exhaust enough that there is no or very little straight through view, so there is no long wave propagation out the back. Put it this way, AFAIK there are ZERO factory straight through systems. If it were possible to get sound / drone control with a much cheaper straight through muffler, the factory would have used them long ago.

IMO put you 2.5 or 2.25 glasspacks aka resontaors along the drive shaft you will be out the $150.00 and it will still drone. Buy two 2.25 mufflers with the baffle and you will be in heaven, choice is yours. Why are you designing a 400 to 450 HP system for a 250 HP car?

Oldman you mean 2.25 in/out or 2.25 inner cores? because the Magna site shows all the inner cores are 2.5.
