One other rumor floating around was that the next gen Camaro would be a smaller car than the current one. Also, no V8 engine would be available and the top car would get a Turbo V6. This is supposed to be due to the new CAFE regulations for the coming years. I just cannot imagine a Camaro without a V8 option really though.

The next gen Camaro is going on a smaller platform because the current platform is a large sedan platform. The current Camaro is actually wider than the Challenger. The 6th gen Camaro will be built on Alpha and will be smaller in exterior size, lighter but will have a slightly larger interior. A V8 will most definitely be available.

This new LFX V6 is supposed to start with about 20 more hp than the current V6 but it's also supposed to be lighter, more fuel efficient, and more compact.

As far as the Mustang V6 being the best performing Pony car right now that is debatable. The Hyundai Genesis whether any of us like it or not accelerated faster, stopped quicker, cornered harder, carried more G's, and got better real world mileage than the Mustang in the latest tests of the 4 V6 RWD cars.
