It seemed that for a while there were other vehicles that gave the Challenger a run for its money. Now with the 707 horsepower Hellcat dodge is back in business! Hell yeah! ;)

I am trying too imagine the HUGE smile I would have on my face driving this car! I mean I get that smile when I drive my 392 hemi but man this thing has 237 horses more that the 392! HOLY COW! I can't imagine how awesome this would be!

I wonder if 707hp is enough to get a unbiased write-up in C/D or R/T. If it had a bow-tie on the front it would be on the front cover all 12 months. I hope this will be the return of track domination as it was in the past for Dodge!

Yea man! I am hoping that too! People need to fear the name Hellcat when it comes to racing just as people feared the 426 hemi back in the day!

Lol, you sound like a kid living off his big brother's achievements. :bang: How old are you? How do you know who "feared" what back in the day? Real car nuts had respect for 454's, 455's (in Pontiac, Buick and Olds variety)) and 429 Shotgun motors, 440's along with the 426. Even AMC 390's!! I don't know anyone who was "afraid" of any brand. People had respect for each other, and their cars. Can you afford a Hellcat? You don't know because it's price hasn't even been released yet.
Having said all that, I am glad Dodge has upped the anty, also. There will always be the discussion as to who has the better track car, or who has the best street car. As with everything speed related; he who has the most money wins.
Besides, the Hellcat is not a race car, it's a street car. There is always someone faster than you. :IThankYou:

The comparisons mean little to me.

Driving a Hellcat around town will be a complete blast, the look is aggressive and cool, you will get noticed every time you drive it, it will be quick, fast, and handle very well, and all the muscle car guys will recognize that it is a highly respected performance machine.

Well you got me. I didn't grow up in the muscle car era. But are you trying to tell me that the 426 hemi wasn't feared (as in respected)?!? Those other engines you mentioned were feared as well. From what I have seen the 426 hemi and the 440 were the engines to beat. Also the 454 and the 455 appeared to be animals. As far as affording the Hellcat I sure hope I will be able to afford it. I might have to trade in both my RT and SRT for it depending on the cost. ;)

I hate C&D and R&T. Most biased publications in the automotive industry. I won a year's subscription a few years ago to Road and Track, and absolutely refused to renew it for only $12. Totally biased, It is EXACTLY like lobbyist buying politicians.

They are going to put the hellcat engine in the charger also dodge says
I'd like to see an all wheel drive version with this engine in the SRT Jeep and Charger.

I don't think Dodge was ever the underdog. This is coming from a "car guy" not a "Mopar or No Car" guy.

Well think about it before the Hellcat Chevy had the z28 which had 505 horses and ford had the GT500. The best dodge had at that time was the SRT8 with 470 horses. Both those cars were more powerful than the SRT8.

I understand your excitement, but the value of a car is not simply a matter of its horsepower rating - it goes much deeper than that. While it's nice that the new Hellcat engine will be a market (segment) leader, I never thought Dodge suffered by comparison to either of the competing products from either Ford or Chevrolet.

The Challenger, even with it's base 5.7L, 375HP V8, was in my opinion, always preferable to either of its competitors !!

I agree with you about the Challenger always being the better car IMO no matter which one was chosen (v6-v8's) ;)

I never thought the Challenger was behind either. In fact I consider it by far the best street car out there.

Many people talk trash about the weight but Ive always considered it a benefit for what I wanted in a car. I want a smooth ride and comfort, weight actaully IMPROVES those things. Additionally, I wanted styling and presence with room to stretch out, storage for my bags on my trips, and all the modern accessories. Those things takes up space and add weight. That it is STILL competitive with the performance hungry cousins even after this is a bonus.

I want it to be a car for driving, I work a normal job and have a wife and kid, I'm not a racer, and if I was I'd be in a race car not a production car. To me the Challenger is SIGNIFICANTLY beyond any of its so called competitors for what I wanted...twice

This car was never a underdog. If I see another true big rear seat Retro Muscle Car out there.... then I will start comparing.
If Dodge mad a mustang/camaro cramp box competitor..it would have kicked the Sh*t out of the two.
Glad they didn't. Muscle cars have to be big.
