I often see posts of folks asking, what cam should I choose for power, lope etc. It’s not that simple. This video will explain why the head flow will dictate a properly sized cam for your specific needs. Kind of a long vid. but worth the time to watch if you are into the details.

this is a very comprehensive description that explains many of the various factors that come into play.

this is also relevant to discussions where folks wanted 440 stroker engines vs. the better choice of 426 due to the durability (around side loads and piston speeds) issues.

and the points about how / where the vehicle would be used and what rpm range of operation is expected.

Here's the stock 392 cam (dual profile cam different lift & duration between intake and exhaust)
Intake: .577 lift @valve / 286* duration
Exhaust: .537 lift @ valve / 288* duration
LSA: 121
Cylinder head flow ~ 340 cfm (stock)
Rocker arm ratio: 1.65:1
