I'm changing the oil in my 2016 RT for the first time tomorrow. I wanted to get a Mopar oil filter for it but the only one that I can find that might fit is the MO-899 04884899AC. But the problem is everything I've looked for that part number doesn't show up for 2016's only for 2015, but as far as I know they should be the same because 15 and up is when they redesigned everything. Will this filter work? It's the same size and has the same threading as what parts catalogs have listed for other brands, but I really want the Mopar.

If it says Mopar 899 it is the one in my Scat. Seems to work. I am thinking the 901 may be for the srt or hellcat but will still fit. Preferable most say. Good luck.

I know fits the scats and SRT but I wasn't sure if they would have or need a different size done their different engines than my 5.7

the MO 899 filter has been used on 5.7s since the '09s came out. It will fit.

Its also used as OEM install on 392 / 6.4 engines as well.

Awesome, thank you. I was just skeptical because like I said, everything I read had that listed for the larger engines and earlier years but not mine.

Well, there you go. We both use the same filter. So, you could use the 901 I would think.

My dealer told me the MO339 is the correct filter to use on my 5.7L Shaker. The MO899 will fit but which is the CORRECT one? My 2012 Grand Cherokee 5.7L uses the MO899 and my 2019 Grand Cherokee 5.7L uses the MO339. The MO339 is slightly smaller in diameter. Are the internals the same?

The "correct" one is larger. The smaller one is FCA's cost cutting unit to save a few cents on every unit out the door.

They both fit, and dealers just read what their computers show them. No thinking or reasoning needed, which probably is a good thing in many cases.

As Hal H stated, the 899 fits and works. Now if you want to really upgrade, go with the SRT filter.

This one will drive your dealer nuts! Lol

The cut off is 2012 to 2013. 2013 has the smaller filter and MORE flow.
Ran into this issue in my 13 ram 5.7 Hemi. Was running the 2012 filter till I checked the spec's closer.
I run the proper SMALLER filter like it suppose to be on there...……………...

Smaller has more flow, interesting. Is the filter media porosity the same?

just saying most folks thought dodge went cheap with the smaller filter. That makes no money sense when BOTH filter fit my truck.
My thinks the MDS system needed more flow then older bigger filter.

FYI I run the higher end WIX brand filters Napa sells.

Wix filters .com

57899 is the 2012 filter
57060 is the 2013 filter

big oil is 9-12 GPM, little one is 10-12. Has to be a reason to switch in 2013...………….just saying

My 2014 R/T was factory delivered with the 899 filter. It was an M6 so not sure if that had anything to do with it. I thought the cutoff was 2015 and all 2015+ 5.7L should have had the 339 and that is what the dealer will show as the correct filter even though the 899 works perfectly fine and is a larger filter with more filtration area and a little more capacity so no doubt I'd run the 899.

Correct. My previous 2010 Grand Cherokee HEMI Limited ran the MO899.

I changed the oil early on my 2018 Challenger (2,745 miles) and basically negotiated a new oil filter and 7 quarts of Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 as my car had been on the lot, unsold, for about 400 days.

There was a MO339 on the car....and the replacement filter was also a MO339.

So max flow is the same for the Wix units, but the OP was talking about the OEM filters.

Smaller filter will more than likely have less filtering media, and possibly a different bypass setting.

When a filter goes into bypass is a big deal IMO, and that's why I use the SRT filter.

Finer filtration media, more dirt holding capacity, and it doesn't go to bypass as quickly because it really does flow more.

Just saying.

Older 5.7Ls with MDS used the 899, this is just FCA saving a nickel per filter IMHO.

There was a lot of discussion about the smaller oil filter (MO-339) when it started showing up on the 2015's and the fact that the MO-899 fits. It's my understanding that the MO-339 was developed because of a clearance problem, on some non-Challenger models, with a radiator hose. It seems that since both the 339 and the 899 are compatible across several models the 339 won out as the factory installed filter.

Yep, two birds with one stone. Fits everything, and saves a few cents per car built.

An engineering feat, and a beancounters dream.
