So I was talking with the muscle car specialist at my dealership today about my wheels - the special furious fuchsia SRT Aluminium wheel with painted pockets. These are the same wheels that are coming on the GWE. I have not been able to figure out if these wheels are sealed or treated in some way but I am thinking not as they are painted :scratchhead:

I am trying to figure out how best to preserve and protect these wheels so that nothing will happen to them. He told me that they are recommending the American Eagle Wheels product - Boss Motorsports Super Finish and Chrome Protectant. BOSS - SUPER FINISH PROTECTANT

I cannot find too much out about this product and before I buy something I would like to make sure that it will work properly and do what I want.

Has anyone used the product or ready good or bad things about it???
Any one have any opinions about it?

As best as I can tell, that product is for use on untreated, bare aluminum and chrome surfaces. I would wager that your wheels are clear coated but don't quote me on that since I really don't know.

Personally, I haven't met a wheel-specific sealant that has convinced me it is better than a quality one I might use on the rest of the car. In other words, I prefer to use paint sealants/waxes on my wheels (FK1000P is one of my favorites for this due to its contaminant shedding characteristics, resilience and durability).

There are also nano and other semi-permanent/permanent coatings that will outlast many traditional sealants. ....G/Techniq, CQuartz, AQuartz, Optimum Opti-Coat, etc. I actually have a syringe of the Opti-Coat in my cabinet I am still waiting to try. OC is a "permanent" coating with excellent shedding charateristics and resistance to chemicals. My first test was going to be on wheels and possibly some trim bits so I can get a feel for the product first.

While I have no experience with that product, since recommended by the makers of the wheels, it might be worth a try.

I can tell you the Superfinish lips are bare polished aluminum even though the center is clearcoated.

The confusion comes from the fact that most two-tone wheels like this in the past have had clearcoated lips, but BOSS wheels and several others under the Eagle umbrella have not in recent years -- and instead have offered this bright bare polished Superfinish.

The Superfinish is often confused with being clearcoated and even chrome and guys treat them wrong or assume they're more resistant to oxidation than they really are.

I get more tech calls about these types of wheels than with any other -- mostly it's because guys are using the wrong products and they create a problem.
