Has anyone had success disassembling and painting or powder coating their chrome fuel filler door?

I've acquired a Mopar stickered fuel door. I was very happy with the standard door painted to match the car. But given the circumstance of it's acquisition I kind-a had to put it on. Any-who...I have no chrome on my car and the fuel filler door sticks out like a sore thumb. I want to get it colored to match my Comp Grey Viper Replica wheels to tone it down.

Thanks,

I believe if you scuff the chrome with sand paper you should be able to paint over it. Otherwise I believe there are processes for taking chrome off, I think your local powder coat company should be able to help.
