Hmmm...that does suck. I'd park it and call your dealer up to come and flatbed tow it in for service. Don't worry, they will find and fix whatever the problem is. Our cars have electric power steering and there have been others on the forum that have had problems similar to yours. I read somewhere that the steering system is an electric/hydraulic type and the pump will display that message if it's not getting the correct voltage for some reason. Again, the dealer will make things right for you, but make sure you don't drive it until it's looked at. Even if the problem goes away next time you start it.

Anyone else have this happen? This is my brand new 2017 Dodge Challenger I purchased brand new from the dealership not even 700 miles on it yet ugh
Hi Crystalluv311,

Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to visit a certified dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed, just send us a PM with your VIN and let me know.

Is yours one of the ones under recall for the alternator? If so, have you had that done yet?

I havent done anything, it is at the dealership now. wouldnt they know if it has a recall or would i need to tell them?
They will run it through the recall search and let you know if any are outstanding, and then they'll go ahead and do any outstanding recalls assuming you consent (although I'm not sure what would happen if you deny consent to perform recall work, that would present a sticky situation for them indeed).

There is a link off the main FCA page which allows you to enter your VIN and it will tell you if you have any outstanding recalls as well. I don't have the link off the top of my head, but it is probably pretty easy to find with a little DuckDuckGo'ing.

what is the performance-tuned steering they do on the Super Track Pak upgrade? maybe that has something to do with why my power steering completely went out on this brand new car? I called the dealership service dept today to get an update on this issue. I got no answer had to leave a v-mail. im so frustrated by this.

Its a faster ratio steering rack and with STP + 8.4" radio (performance pages) you can change the steering assist from Comfort / Normal / Sport settings.

Hello,

I have the exact same issue with my car and I was just wondering if this issue was covered by the warranty?
Steering rack would be covered under the 3 year / 36,000 warranty so as long as you are within those two numbers you are covered.

I have a 2016 Scat Pack with 6,300 miles that is going in to the dealer Monday morning to have the steering rack replaced because it is leaking. The factory warranty ran out 4 months ago. I guess my $3,000 dollar lifetime warranty I bought when I got the car just paid for it's self. The steering rack costs $2,136 dollars plus most of a days labor that should put the cost over the price I paid for the warranty plus the $100 dollar deductible . Any repairs needed after this will paid by FCA minus the $100 dollar deductible. I am so glad my Challenger was delivered earlier than expected as I took delivery in April 2016 and FCA dropped the lifetime warranty on SRT powered cars in May 2016.
