Just received my predator tuner from a seller on craigslist.

I have been reading up on the manual and it seems to be pretty straight forward... plug in while car is off, back up stock tune, then select tune to install, hit enter, and done.

However, my questions is since i have a couple of bolts-ons, (K&N air intake, local shop custom cat-back exhaust system) will the performance tune that comes with the handheld device be enough to get significant gains (hp & torque)?

Or is it possible to download custom tunes online and load them onto the device via USB, or get someone to write up a script for a custom tune?

Im pretty new to this as you can tell, so please be easy on me, just going by what I have read from the manual and other forum threads.

So is this a predator that has been used on another car already?
My understanding is that once used it "locks" to one VIN or something to that effect.
Either way, if running a canned CAI 91/93 octane tune I have heard folks claim about a 20hp bump with fairly improved throttle response...dunno for sure just what I have read

You are correct, it does VIN lock once installed, but if its like the SMARTY tuner on my Cummins Ram, as soon as you reload the factory program it unlocks and can be installed on another vehicle.

Paul,

So buying a used predator is not an issue as long as the factory tune has been reloaded to the originol car?

Yes sir, that should be the case. It may be prudent to verify with DiabloSport that the Predator automatically unlocks when the factory tune is reloaded, but that's the way it is with every diesel tuner I've come across.
