Getting very close to pulling the trigger on a Sublime green R/T Scat Pak.... Think I got a good price of 39500 plus tax and doc fees. MSRP is 42000. It only has these options. Sound group 2, automatic trans ans ...it only comes with leather...told this by 2dealers. But here is where the hair pulling starts
1. Manual or auto? I am 58years old and Want something that REALLY performs. I want something that will really light the tires up in smoke when I want it to. But at my age I also wonder if at an older age if I may regret it and wish I had the auto? I plan to keep this as long as I am am able to drive. Will the auto roast the tires when I want it to? My neighbor works at a dealership and says with all the traction control turned off it won't. He says you can't over ride to make it do it like a manual.....I have read here that the Auto is a little quicker in the quarter....see the ease of normal driving around with the auto...but feel the desire to bang the gears sometimes also... However the manual has a guzzler tax and when you bump up to the auto the tax drops off and then it's only a 400 dollar price to the auto....definitely need help in this area guys.

2.pricing....MSRP is 41985.... With the auto and 41500with the stick How does this compare to what you are getting?
3. And the leather seats have a cloth center insert...want to see if I can drop this...I have never owned one with leather...please tell me the advantages of the leather group.
So as you can see I am perplexed....help me out please before I am bald...
Thank you in advance

1. test drive both and see what you like better
2. aim for invoice and know if any rebates / holdbacks are out there for the MY. Go in armed with this info and save some dealership time by haggling on an agreed upon OTD price before you step foot in the dealership. Check with the internet sales team.
3. it's a preference. I had cloth before, now I have leather. Looks good, smells good, feels good.

Well good job having your hair dude! I'm kinda same boat- I specifically went with the manual tranny to keep me focused as I age more. May sound screwed up but after wives GMa' bought the auto-chair and stopped getting up on her own/ in wheelchair now-- I decided take stairs, park far out, and drive a stick-

Have to think about health a little. Anything happens to your leg, knee, ankle ect. the car may be garage bound. Happened to me, had two new manual cars and had nothing to drive.
You can burn out nicely with an auto and drift all you want ( all the while abiding by local law and ordinances )
Enjoy whatever you get !!!

I don't think you'll regret that 8 speed. None of that is true. Even the 5.7 auto R/T's will roast the tires with the traction control completely turned off.

THAT 8 SPD HOOKED TO THE 392 IS GONNA BE INSANE.

It will roast current SRT8, and the new manual for sure, plus, it turns the car into a smooth cruiser, for those nights out with the wife. no brainer, really. :bigthumb:

Tough call. In my opinion, nothing is more fun than a manual transmission in a muscle car.only reasons I would choose an auto would be if it were a daily driver, or if I could not drive a stick.

Good luck, no wrong answer here .

manual is included in MSRP, automatic is an extra approx. $1200. I like the manual trans in mine, it is so fun to drive, much more than my wife's Charger Hemi R/T with auto. Nothing like driving the manual and having fun after a hard days work, makes driving fun, you will feel 20 years younger.

I'm close to your age! I have the 6M and I love it, though I am a manual guy... Another thing that I get with the 6M is a Hurst shifter. In addition, I have a couple of shifter shafts including the white ball (my favorite), the T handle (not so much), and what I have on at this moment, the old school pistol grip. Just put it on the other day after having the white ball on for the last year. Love it.

If it is in the back of your mind get the automatic.

Leather is easier to clean, holds up better. I only buy a car with leather.

Pricing is always higher going into a new model year and then decreases throughout the model year until he next model is coming out.

My advice is to get invoice or below, so wait until the dealer incentives start happening throughout the year. December, January, February and March are the best months to purchase a car many are only thinking about driving in the Summer.

Best of luck.

I don't know about others, but I just can't see having one of these cars with a 392 or a 6.2 without manual shift despite slower quarter times. You seem to like the idea of squealing tires... I can tell you what you won't get with an auto... the 1-2,2-3,3-4,4-5 tire barking. And that is just good fun.

I bought my RT Classic 6M as a gift to myself at 60. Driving a v8 6 speed is an adventure every time I drive it. I pay way more attention to the act of driving & it seems so much more satisfying than my auto cars.

I too old & cautious to burn rubber & zoom about - just love the idea of manhandling the power at my feet with such a gorgeous muscle car.

Good luck deciding (don't think you'll go wrong either way)

The 8 speed is $1,400 more that the 6 speed, but you don't have to pay the $1,000 guzzler tax, so it's really only $400.

The Charger auto's are programmed to shift a lot slower and smoother than the Challengers, can't really even compare the two.

The real way to test drive the auto Challenger is to put it in sport mode, makes a big difference in the way it shifts.

I'm 51 and have owned 3 MT cars in my 35 years of driving: an 81 Accord, an 88 Integra and a 95 Eclipse turbo. Obviously, none were serious performance oriented cars.

I am currently driving a 2011 Mustang with an auto. I don't regret getting the auto, but probably would have enjoyed a manual more.

My Scat Pack on order is a MT and I cannot get this car in my hands soon enough
