Hello my Challenger friends,

Haven't posted for 6 weeks or so but I'm still in the market and leaning more than ever towards a challenger after the less than enthusiastic performance reviews of the GT. It hasn't gained anymore performance. Rather it's lost some. The weight gain of 200lbs with only a modest 15hp increase to offset the weight was the nail in the '15s coffin. In some cases it's getting worse 1/4 mile times than my '14.

Anyway, I really want a Hellcat. Since I like living in four walls made of Sheetrock rather than cardboard though, I'm going for the 392 Scat Pack. But I just love the look of that Shaker Hood. So it got me thinking, I remember at the unveiling one of the Chrysler engineers said it wouldn't just be for aesthetics, that the Shaker would also be functional. Originally, I assumed the extra 15 horsepower increase came from the Shaker but it obviously hadn't since it's being released separately. So, are there going to be gains and if so how much more on top of the already awesome 485?

Also, I assume coming from the Mustang aftermarket culture there are aftermarket tunes and such for challengers. I know it's not as big of a scene. But how much can you typically squeeze out of these massive engines with a tune? I assume there is so much more power waiting to be unleashed in these elephants.

Something about Chrysler and the Challenger draws me. I'm full of nostalgia and Chrysler had tons of it. They are finally offering quality product and can compete without excuses being made for it on an even footing with the other Big two.

For the tuning questions, view the 6.4 threads, it will give you a good idea about what to expect performance wise.

On the shaker, it is functional which brings another air path source but I would not expect a big difference. If anything you might see a slight increase once you get some speed like the vararam set ups are known to do.

I would vote 0 HP gain, and the extra weight of all the shaker hardware just makes it heavier and even more nose heavy. Anybody weighed the system yet?

I would guess the overall weight of the Shaker Assembly would be negligable from a performance standpoint.

Yes, it weighs "something", but not enough to degrade any performance measures.

It just looks cool...but it looking cool is still subjective to the individual.

I came from a 2012 GT. I needed a tune for that car just for better street driveability. I for one wont be tuning my SP. The sport mode button acts like a tuner to a point. Changes the shift points, opens the active exhaust, removes traction control. Becomes an absolute beast.

. . . and it changes the throttle response too (at least it does on the six speed cars).
