SRT Air Dam sticker shock

So, I'm now on my 4th air dam, and was really surprised at the new price! Part # 68258746AB is now $312 thru Mopar! 2 years ago I had it replaced, after hitting a chunk of retread on the highway, and the same part was $112.

I did some searching on the google machine, and found one for $220, plus $40 for shipping, so shop around.

Hehehe, dropped it in to Google and Amazon lists it for $316. Check it out, I am a little uncertain who the OEM actually is for this part though. LOL!

I have actually had decent luck with getting parts on Amazon. Gotta know your part numbers and price points though. Sometimes they will slip in a big markup. Other times they are competitive. Occasionally they are awesome for not only having it in stock, but getting it to me ASAP compared to Summit/Jegs/Rockauto.
In late 2018 the plastic rocker panels were about $97 each from Mopar - now the right one is $190 and the left $390!!! Sucks since they seem to crack/break every 2 years for me.

Looks like shipping is free

No one else got a chuckle out of this?

I don’t know whether to chalk it up to malicious greed in search of an ever increasing profit margin or market forces doing what they do best, but the rising cost of OEM/Mopar parts is getting ridiculous.

Case in point: the lug nuts for my cop steelies.

The 18x7.5” steel wheels on these cop Chargers have center caps (aka dog dishes) that are held securely in place by the lug nuts. As such, the lug nuts are different from the normal OE lug nuts and thus have their own part number.

Now considering how easily they are to tear up with the pneumatic tools the average tire shop uses, it should be no surprise I have to order several replacements after a few visits to the tire shop. Those orders have become more and more expensive.

In 2018 the lug nuts cost me ~$3 each.
In 2019 their price had risen to ~$6 each.
If I want to buy some now, they will cost me ~$11 each.

At almost 100% price increase every year, I’ll have to start prostituting myself just to buy replacements in 2021.

I too, have noticed many parts just sky-rocketing in price. The Chinese are making many knock-off parts at much cheaper prices but....many don't work or fit very well. Finding some parts for my 2010 R/T is getting harder and much more expensive. It's cheaper for me to get things for a 2019. The early cars don't have the parts availability anymore. You can't get things like seat covers (the original factory parts). I had to source some salvage vehicle components to keep my car looking great. Just 10 years later and many trim items are not available, what happened to 3D printing and promises of part accessibility? I can get anything for a 65 Mustang it seems, even a new body but not a 2010 Challenger. Yup, $350 for a plastic rocker cladding!! I just bought a set of the after-market versions, ($145) they look like they would work, time will tell.

Look at it this way, they can't be worse than the OEM ones.

Did you find the set for $145 or are you talking per side via the $287 pair on ebay?

I found a set 6 months ago for $145, they are up to $287? aftermarket?!

Yeah. I just looked up aftermarket too since I am in need of a passenger side and that the expensive one. Where did you buy yours?

Another inexpensive source would be a salvage yard. Here is a site for a national database of parts.

some of the knock off stuff can be low quality.

a local buy wanted to get the '08 - '10 style SRT spoiler - he got a knock-off part online.

It was this flexy somewhat glossy rubbery part - nothing like the OEM part for fit and having the correct texture - took a lot of manipulating to get it to fit and there were tabs that didn't line up and mounting holes omitted.

so it various a lot out there as to what you actually get for the "bargain" price.

If the supplier raised prices for the part, FCA will increase theirs as well.

The problem is, soon there will not be parts from FCA for the older (08-14) Challengers. This rocker claddings are not being produced anymore, (discontinued) as well as many other items. We will be forced to use aftermarket, substandard parts.

Dang car guys, seeing all those details! That looks like a '95 or '96 9C1 cloned to a WX3 in the background. Mine....

Not a 9C1. A '91 dressed up like an SS. It earned its collector plates this year - hadn't seen pavement in 3 years, and I was tired of paying biennial fees to the government. Literally took the uninstalled '19 tags back and said 'No, seriously, it is not being driven'.

Cool, first skirt quarter car I have seen with the quarter glass extensions.
Stick on some Caprice SS emblems to really confuse the GM crowd. (Impala SS's that were export to Middle East got Caprice SS emblems, Chevy Caprice was like the #1 US car there, and they knew the Impala was a lower model)
My 1994 I had back in the day.
LT1, tow package HD cooling/brakes/posi/leather, almost a real SS other than color/rear discs/wheels
