Hi All!

I just bought my 2010 SRT about 2 weeks ago from a dealer. It has the stock 6.1 with no mods (20K for mileage), except for an Airaid CAI that we installed about a week later (the car was doing the "starter thing" before we installed the CAI, however.)

This is what is does... you press the brake, then press the starter button and it will crank for 10 seconds, but fail to start. It has always started on the second attempt, and has never left me stranded.

Problem is... it only does this intermittently. It will start great for days, then it will do that twice in a day. It's going back to the dealer on Tuesday for them to look at this, but I just KNOW that it will likely test out fine, and not do this little trick for the mechanic.

I am trying to get a video of it doing this to show the mechanic... but now the car is not "cooperating", and is starting fine every time. LOL! Could it be something as stupid as a low battery in the key fobs? It does this with both fobs (but the batteries could be low in both, I suppose)

Anyone ever had this happen??

Thanks guys. It goes into the shop on Tuesday... I will let you know the
outcome. It does it only when it is warm... About 2 hours after being driven.

A mechanic friend has suggested vapor lock. I got a video for the mechanic to watch... It cooperated for me this afternoon and did it's trick...

Update

Well, I took my baby in this morning. After waiting all day... I got the call from the service manager...
Apparently my baby is not cooperating, and they were unable to keep the computer connected. They will try again tomorrow.

Awesome. I am one stressed out chick tonight. Red wine is my friend...

But... They gave me a Chrysler 200 as a loaner.... :couto:

I know on previous vehicles Ive owned this has been a bad fuel pressure regulator. When the regulator fails it allows the fuel to drain all the way back to the tank resulting in long cranking. It will eventually start when the fuel is pumped back up to the engine. Dont know the exact Challenger fuel setup, but this could be a possibility along with whats been mentioned above.

Nope... all the video shows is that the car won't start. I found out this morning that they were able to recreate the fail to start issue (bonus!!)... BUT... they need to access the computer to see what the problem is.

Apparently there is something that is blocking them from accessing the ECM. They have contacted the factory for assistance.

And I sit and wait...

OK fellas... I finally have an answer. Turns out that the car has has two integrated powers sensors (that's what the tech called them)... one in the engine and the other in the trunk.

The front one has failed.

I'm going to pick up my baby in an hour.

WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!

had problem again this A.M., with a twist. Only one horn chirp with remote press & no start, push button to start , start then shut down, then loooooong extended crank, had to remove button & cycle key to start. Sound similar to what you had?
