Hi djturk254,

Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to revisit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed. Just send us a PM with your VIN and let me know.

Could be the EVAP system doing a system check. Although I haven't heard it on my '09 SRT, I hear it on my Lexus now and then. It even states it my owners manual that I may hear noise five hours after shutting off my vehicle.

I've heard this before from other forum members. Some say it's the HID ballast, some say coolant pressure, some say it's just normal electronic "housekeeping" and stops after a short time. I do believe it's considered normal.

Its the EVAP system purging itself.
Will do it more in hot weather and in the sun for extended times.
Its more than likely venting pressure from the fuel tank.
Nothing to worry about.

I've never heard that out of my former Challenger nor my current one.

The only noise I've noticed after shut down is hearing the HVAC actuators cycling off.

I've been in the garage after driving the car and working on other things or putting things away...never heard that sound before.

That is not the coolant cap bleeding off noise which I had happen on my car until I replaced the reservoir cap. Could it be the active exhaust flaps cycling and scraping the exhaust?

Ive listened again and that's definitely the EVAP purge.
My 2016 does it for a half hour sometimes.
I park in garage and hear it frequently.
If I keep the gas tank at 3/4 or more it doesn't do it as much.
Like I said before its nothing to concern about.
What doesn't make sense it it doing it when you wash the car.
Unless the engine ran for a short time and the vacuum system
didn't have a chance to help evacuate the purge.

I had a 2015 SXT new car, it always did that, guessing 90% of the time, sometimes it would go on for hours.......got a 2016RT now and i never hear it on it??....both are A8'S......it always seem to come from the bottom of trany area....I figured it just was the tranny learning thing? ....it always ran great!:pimp:

God, I love this forum. Heard this same noise on my '18 T/A 392 this afternoon while washing it. Drove me crazy!!

Afterwards I fed the family, cracked a beer and went to the forum. Typed "Strange Engine Sound" and this thread popped up and the info in it relieved my anxiousness. Thank you!

This has come up from time-to-time on the forum and it's quite puzzling, and some Charger guys have mentioned it as well. I have an '18 R/T 5.7 and the only time I've EVER heard it is after I start to wash it in my driveway. The noise will go on for a while after the wash. Sounds similar to the above videos but much more muted...and almost like a very slow Morse code at times. I don't know much about how the EVAP system works, but the theory about the purge solenoid is the only theory I've heard that makes sense. I park in a garage otherwise which would make the noise even more noticeable, but no beeping ever in there. I'd like to spend some time and investigate while it's doing it, but I don't want to interrupt my wash...I have to work fast between when my driveway has shade and the sun goes down :)

The 'only when washing' makes me doubt the spring theory for sure.

Well it depends on an HVAC system high/low side pressure differential. Most folks prob run the compressor at some point in the washing process...and/or are standing outside of the veh long enough to notice it.

Still not convinced, but then I wash and detail my car most every weekend, and I've never heard it, whether using AC before or not.

Well not all of the Denso units will have spring rattle (very few in fact), so you're just a lucky A Guy, A Guy.

Could be that when you wash the car the condenser (sits right next to the hot radiator) gets a rapid cool down while the compressor housing is still hot. Still not clear on how pressure changes in the system could cause the displacement valve to rattle, but other vehicles (as I posted earlier) have a similar problem where a strange noise is created when the engine is off.
