nice find...however, purists will argue that a six banger doesn't meet the "muscle car" qualification

I guess they drew a line in the sand and said anything beyond 300 HP is a muscle car.

No surprise that the Mustang and Camaro outsell the Challenger, but having a roomier interior is where the Challenger wins it for me.

The old 318 cubic inch engines were only rated for 235 h.p. as a reference.

Okay, my bad. I googled 318 horsepower after I made my last ^^^ post and see it was rated for 230 h.p. so before somebody jumps on me I wanted to correct that!!
Of course my old 318 made 235h.p. because of my CAI....... wink

It happens to depend on what year we are talking about back then. I have a 70 Challenger with a 440. It was rated at 375 HP from the factory. A 79 Dodge with a 440 was rated at 175 HP because of all anti-pollution stuff added, along with a lower compression ratio. :mecry:

True, I based the 230h.p. rating from the 1970 model year since you could purchase 318 Challengers back then.
