Nothing like the sound of a lumpy cam (purple shaft?) in the old sloppy high tolerance engines of yesteryear. Today's engines are so refined in so many ways they make little noise. The cool thing about those old ones is that not only did you hear the exhaust sound, but you heard the various engine noises...

That motor I have in the Road Runner right now is a mild low deck big block with a purple shaft. I am in the process of pulling it to swap back in the built motor, it doesn't sound like that, can't even idle below 1,000 rpm because of the big solid lift cam it has.
