Hello all, I installed a comp cam hrt stage 2 cam kit with new lifters, pushrods, cam, springs, retainers etc. also installed long tube headers. Got it tuned and have driven it about 200 miles since the work was done. But ever since the cam was installed I have pretty loud valvetrain noise. It doesn’t sound like it’s cylinder or side dependent. It’s just loud all around, can hear it up top but it’s really loud at the fenderwells. Like a typewriter noise.

is it normal to have increased valvetrain noise after installing cams and tubes? I’m getting mixed reviews when searching online.

I checked and didn’t see any black soot around the header gaskets.
Thin wall Headers will sound different than stock for valve train noise ... but a loose header flange or Exhaust leak is suspect . No one wants to try and tighten the headers on these cars they are real hard to reach . Wish we could be more help without hearing it . Not sure if you did the work yourself but maybe bring it to someone for a second opinion.

I uploaded a short onYouTube.. I had a shop do the work. They said it’s normal but idk. Just sounds intense.

I kinda hear thin wall tube headers doing their thing on my crappy laptop speakers. Is the sound even on both sides of the vehicle?

I had similar ticking noise after installing MMX ME cam, hellcat lifters, PSI springs, and LT headers that i never could figure out and drove me crazy. Several folks told me its normal w/ the thin header walls so i let it go.
But....I eventually had @stevewhite replace the engine. Reused the headers and never heard that sound afterwards.

Yeah for the most part it’s on both banks..

Did did you end up replacing the engine? It’s surprising the noise never came back. How long did you drive with the ticking for?

Yes, swapped in a built 426 less than a year after adding the MMX cam. If I had to guess it was something w/ the hellcat lifters/springs but I was not mechanically inclined to find root cause. I searched for exhaust looks, faulty pulleys, etc w/ no luck.

Higher rate valve springs will make more sound than the stock ones - noted this on both my '09 R/T and my '16 SPS after I did cam swaps (and valve springs) on both of them

Thin after market headers will sound different/louder. Same thing happened to me on my old( gone now thank God ) f150.

,Installed long tubes, cheap ones and heard my value train thru them. Thought it was a leak, spent hrs retighting and didn't fix it. No black soot or any evidence of a leak either.
