I disagree on it being a total waste of money. All depends on what you plan to do with the car. If you plan to keep it forever, I'd do it.
My '67 Satellite had mint floor / truck etc all because whoever originally bought the car, for sure bought a great undercoating package, as there is probably a good 1/4" of the stuff under there.
