Exactly, but point lost on the people here that somehow feel they've been personally affected by someone that puts fake badges on his own car, and the structure of this poll plays to that mindset.

Gotta feel bad tho for anyone whose life is so wrapped up in their own car, and their own sense of what's wrong (when it comes to cars) they are blinded to people that have less than them aspiring to something better.
You are missing the point. Upbadging is not about the car, motorcycle, or any other material item. It's about the person or type of person they are or more so who they are trying to be. It's about lying and in most cases the lie is to make people think you have something you really do not have. If you truly think this is okay and that there is nothing wrong with lying then I will question the type of person you are. You can voice your opinion which ever way you choose but you have openly stated you do not agree with upbadging. Leave it at that like the majority of others. Debating a point opposite of what you believe proves what? To me personally you either don't believe what you present to us here, or you are a hypocrite. I'd use a political analysis but that would open up another debate.

What a bunch of b.s. I have never openly stated I don't agree with upbadging. Where do you get that? I have stated several times that I don't care if someone upbadges or not. It's their car. I've also called into question people's motives about being upset about what someone else does to their car. How clear do I have to get?

My only point I made against upbadging was if people think it will get them newfound respect or if they think somehow their car performs better because of upbadging.

I can't crawl in people's heads to find out exactly why they upbadge. I suspect it's because they could only afford an SE and aspire to an R/T or SRT. I can empathize with that, and I don't take offense if they make their car look exactly like my R/T Classic and save maybe $10K in the process. Good for them, and if they get more of a kick out of driving it with the R/T badges and decals even better.

It's the small minded people like you that take what someone does with their own car as a personal affront that I find both amusing and sad at the same time. I'll say it one more time, "If your world is consumed with car ownership to the point upbadging bothers you, then you have a problem."

I think the fact you chose "cool" or "not cool" speaks volumes.

You guys just can't get past the point of feeling you need to judge these people that upbadge. Calling them names like "poser" and "liars" is so middle school. Just get over it. Nothing they are doing has any impact on you personally AT ALL. The fact that you are upset with what someone else does to their car should scream the need for introspection.

My personal feeling is that upbadging is probably not a "cool" thing to do, UNLESS the person doing the upbadging likes his car better that way. Then, it is very cool to them, and that's all that really matters. And it doesn't devalue or make me feel bad for owning my R/T Classic one iota, because I'm secure in who I am, and the car I own.
Here is your quote but you will find a way to argue your own quote and try to tell me I mis-read your quote. :liar:

Todd,
Everything in our lives starts out as an idea.
Then we bring the idea into being.
People do that in different ways. Most successful businesspeople, such as yourself do this entirely on a subjective plane.
Others need to take small, objective steps toward their goals--perhaps because they lack your confident focus and don't feel they can make those big jumps all at once.
Consider that upbadging can be a manifestation of those small steps; it can be part of an objective creation process. The ultimate goal is to actually own the model of their dreams.

Gary - I get what your saying and please understand that I have never stated I "hate" people that upbadge such as noz34 claims. What I have stated is that whatever their reason is for upbadging may be, I do not agree with it. I personally think this is a "black or white" situation. You either agree that it is okay to do or you don't. Noz34 wants to debate his/her position on upbadging. My earlier post caught him/her in a contradiction and in fact a lie. This is the type of person I have little respect for. Everyone has their side to the upbadging but the poll numbers speak for themselves. Currently the vast majority of people that own Challengers agree that upbadging is something they do not agree with.

Wow. I guess because I said it may not be a "cool" thing to do you somehow impart that I'm totally against it.

Let's see:

I don't think it's "cool" to shave your head, but a lot of people do it, and I could care less.
I don't think it's "cool" to listen to RAP music, but a lot of people like it, and I respect that.
I don't think it's "cool" to wear pink, yellow, or orange socks, but if someone wants to do that I don't care.
I don't think it's "cool" for self righteous people that own something nicer than someone else to take offense if those "other" people make their car look like something it's not.
And no, I don't think it's "cool" to put other badges on your car, but some people like to do that, and that's their business. It doesn't bother me in the least.

I guess your post is just another example of someone reading something into what someone else says and interpreting it to please themselves.

To be clear, I could not disagree more with the name calling, the disgust, and in general anything negative that anyone has to say about someone that upbadges their car for their own pleasure. I'm sure it makes perfect sense to the people that feel that way, but to me, it's just a lot of negativeness over nothing that matters.

I've read posts that say no one has said why it is ok to upbadge. Seriously? It's "OK" because it's their car, they're buying the badges, they're putting them on.

I would challenge any of the naysayers to detail exactly why it is wrong to upbadge. I'm not talking about calling them liars or posers. I'm saying, explain exactly the negative impact on YOU when someone upbadges THEIR car. They can't because there isn't a negative impact.

I've said enough, and voiced my opinion on the other thread about upbadging being "OK".

Have your little narrow minded poll, and I'll choose not to participate since it doesn't have a field that applies.

Anything that makes each of you feel more comfortable in your narrow little worlds.

I guess you really didn't say enough....

Look, does it impact my life personally.. no. Do I think about it daily... no. Do I respond when someone posts on car forum and states it's okay, and that those of us who don't think it's okay should mind our own business... yes, I respond... since the poster obviously wanted to have a discussion (otherwise he wouldn't have posted the topic in the first place).

Seriously, this line of thinking just misses the point altogether. That some folks will accept integrity issues is beyond the pale, and shows what we've come to as a society. I don't disagree that on a certain level it's just immaturity and/or insecurity, but really, where does it end? Hopefully, it doesn't end with someone being sold a bill of goods on a car that isn't what it's portrayed to be. If you think this devil-may-care attitude doesn't affect us, well, I've got a section of oceanfront property in AZ to sell you, dirt cheap. How do people in this country think we got into the mess we're in? Dumb, bad luck? :disgust:

Seriously man, your logic is skewed. To transpose someone's personal preferences on their personal belongings over to an affront on yourself is just plain wrong.

The world is a big place. Besides downbadging, people do other things in their lives totally legal and moral that some of us can't understand or would even consider. Does that make it wrong? NO! As moral, responsible adults we look at those actions and may not understand them, but if they only affect the person themself, then what business is it of ours and why should we condemn them and call them names?

Another example: I don't understand why anyone would color their hair crazy colors or pierce their skin and faces with multiple objects. I don't understand the whole "Goth" thing. Even though it's all legal, and it's incomprehensible for me to consider doing, I don't care if someone else does.

Some people just don't it. This is a car enthusiast's site not the ACLU site. No it is not illegal to upbadge your car but that is not the question. The statement put forth was "upbadging is okay". Maybe it is in your little corner of the universe. It is not okay to the bulk of the members of this car enthusiasts's forum. It will never be okay with the majority of members of any car enthusiast's forum.

Why? Because the majority of members consider it to be deceitful. You don't like it? Too bad, so sad you're mad. If you don't like our "small mindedness" you know where the door is, use it.

Sorry, no plans on leaving since I think forums are a viable discourse for everyone's opinions. Sorry if mine don't "fall in line" with the majority here. I do own a Challenger though, and I enjoy sharing information on them.

I like how you describe my "little corner of the universe" and then imply car forums ARE the universe. Hilarious.

And IMHO upbadging (with no intent to deceive for purpose of gain) is OK. Unfortunately that's not how this poll was structured. The only 2 questions on the poll was if it was "cool" or not. I don't think upbadging is "cool" but I'm cool with it under the above circumstances.

...to transpose someone's personal preferences on their personal belongings over to an affront on yourself is just plain wrong.
Why don't you create a poll that asks if people are upset or affronted when they see a 6.1 hemi hood badge on a SE or R/T? Your point is a related but entirely different question from this poll.

The results of this poll are predictable and rational. What is interesting and highly instructive is how narrow the poll's definition of "upbadging" was. Note that adding wheels, tires, stripes, spoilers, any other custom item you can think of is considered cool, and the ONLY thing treated as not cool was slapping on badges that misrepresent what the car is.

Given the narrow definition, I think upbadging is uncool. Why do I see upbadging as uncool?

First, why misrepresent something when enthusiasts will see thru your deception? You won't impress them and the other thread shows that upbadging sets a person up for ridicule. Just as the upbadger is free to put 392 emblems on their Yugo, others are just as free to laugh when they see it.

Second, the general public doesn't know or care much about the distinction between a 3.5, 3.6, 5.7, 6.1 and 6.4. Many won't know a Challenger is a Dodge, let alone a Challenger. Many will call it a Mustang-Charger-Camaro. You aren't impressing the general public with that R/T, SRT or 392 badge, because it doesn't mean anything to most of them, they just see that fantastic Challenger.

Every Challenger is way cooler than 99% of the cars on the road today and will draw plenty of admiring glances, with or without any badges.

He didn't say the Forum was the universe??

You have a odd way of speaking your mind.
I said he implied it by making fun of my "small corner of the universe".

You know, you guys just go ahead, make fun of anything/anyone that doesn't see things your way. I've given up trying to present another point of view. You don't want to hear it, because it goes against your own beliefs and for some reason that threatens you all to the point you have to get nasty.

It's no big deal any way you slice it or dice it. People that want to put different badges on their car are going to do it no matter what you think. Some people (like me) don't care. Some people don't like it, and some don't like it to the degree they've got to ridicule anyone that doesn't feel the same way they do.

Have a good life.

How does your universe translate to you into a forum??

You quoted me and said lots. What's my point of view? I have not said one thing about it, that kind of arrogance from you is what guys on here are talking about. Go take a hard look in the mirror. You cannot get past your own view's to see anyone else's.
