Update from my dealer....

Went in for my 2 week visit - They have been told that they believe they will get their allocation amount next week. They also still believe they will be able to put orders in the week of the 16th. Now I will be on vacation that week so I said I would provide them with my "specs" prior. This is the interesting comment - he said he doesn't expect to be able to "order" a car that Dodge will build spec cars and they will get what they get. He said e-mail him my desired order and if he can put it in that way they will - but of course I will be the first to know.

Now, they didn't do this in '08 - granted you could only order one of three colors and there were three other options (no manual) and that was it but you were still able to choose. Has anyone heard of spec cars being built and not being able to order desired options.

The saga keeps unfolding doesn't it. At least the deal of if he gets allocated (3) so two other than mine he will honor MSRP if not we'll see. I would say it is now a 50/50 chance I will be getting a first run car :dunno:

Ok, so he wasn't the only one. Yeah WTF... I don't think any real Mopar enthusiast who has been waiting for this car would take one that didn't meet want they want perfectly especially at the price point.

Yup...unless they give me a serious discount :)

They are setting themselves up for car lot rot

......I am not spending almost 70K to settle on a Hellcat that doesn't meet my discerning tastes....

HELLcat no......

Went through the same BS with the Shelbys a few years back. The players change but the game remains the same..
From the tea leaves I've read, it seems Dodge is making the first run of cars they way they think the buying public will like them, in order to get the Hellcats out in the wild. There aren't that many option combinations where they can't build what they think will be most popular. So it sounds like Dodge, with input from maybe some of the larger SRT dealers, is spec'ing the first ones, and will hand them out according to their allocation formula. I have also heard the initial ones may be numbered.

After, the initial run hopefully custom orders will be accepted and built for individual buyers.

The above is my opinion of what's currently going on based on what I've read and heard - time will tell the story...

I received text from dealer yesterday saying.

"Order banks open 10am pst on 8/8 be here first thing 7:30 to go thru order sheet and place as soon as they open the banks"

Cheers!

In other words,....the dealership is ordering the cars the way that they want to order them and possibly put a markup on them because they know what options most people want. I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling that is the case. :icon_evil:

Right, why bother filling out the initial order with guesses / shots in the dark when it's painfully obvious they could build all those first-run cars with people here, on other boards and forums, and IRL who are being turned away by dealerships that have people in-line, money in hand, order spec ready?

Let's fill up those dealerships with options / color combos nobody wants. It worked well for the Dart at launch, didn't it?

I just have to sit back and shake my head, honestly.
This makes no sense. Why option them and ship them out instead of taking orders from hundreds of us waiting to do so? Maybe 500 or so but not initially. Allow those of us ready to order to do so. Easily 500 there. Then crank 500 or so out and allow orders to get the other 2000+ mix of dealer orders and individuals.

Its a great point - the Mopar people are supposedly reading these forums - if they really valued true Mopar enthusiasts they would offer the first ones to us at a set price move them through dealerships allowing them to get their dealer kickbacks. They would get amazing goodwill, move the numbers they want make a profit and get the best social media publicity they could ever want.

But that would be too easy, too nice, too human to do so - is anyone really listening - I don't know. Maybe
the question should be does anyone really care.
Maybe this first 360 run is already selected options mainly due to parts/color availability or something they don't want to tell us...that way they can actually make all 360. Then in month #2 opens up for us to order what we want. I'd be ok w that. Then we can get more owner reviews preorder. :)

That sounds like you wont be getting a car "built for you", in other words.....dealer car that you gotta make a deal on when it comes in once the general manager drives it for a few months
Well I don't know what to say, I went to the dealer in Canada they logged in and pulled up the Hellcat. I got to pick my colour however on the screen it said late availability for some colours. I then went to options and there were not many. The sepia leather was late availability and sunroof was not available. Everything else was. I got my von, they printed the order sheet and I was done in ten minutes.

I would suggest waiting to see lots of speculation here.

Good luck for those ordering.

I cant believe grown men cant put 2 and 2 together lol. Of course you are not going to be able to order what you want on the initial allotment of 300 - 1200 cars, they have to get them built and to dealers so all those people wanting to pay the markup can. Once those 1200 are built, then they will start building the customer ordered cars.
