Well, I finally took step 1 - called the dealer to have the parts ordered for my 2010 RT.

The parts get installed tomorrow (8/1).

What kind of 'problems' should I be on the lookout for after the work is done ?

Steering wheel position/alignment ?

Squeaky dash ?

Other ?

I'm NOT looking forward to this ..............

I had both airbag recalls done today. It took about 1.5 hrs, and that included setting up a new key fob/cutting a new key, too.

I am happy with how it went - didnt notice any damage to the car, no rattling of dash afterwards, and steering wheel aligned. I'll look it over a little closer, and give it a more thorough road test this weekend. So far, so good.

They continue to add cars, my '14 was just added to the passenger air bag recall.
A quick call to the dealership and it's all set up to replace later this week.

I go to my dealer twice a year for oil changes..the only thing that ever popped up on their radar was the alternator recall for my 2013 R/T. I do not remember ever getting a letter in the mail about airbags. So I guess this affects pretty much all Challengers?

Where is the propellant container located for passenger bag as the letter that came yesterday only said that one?
I’m extremely hesitant as I do not trust any dealership techs, my car is as important to them as is a rust bucket trade in. All they want to do is not be at work. Got the same letter for my Wrangler too.

It's under the dash, but they remove the glove box tray and access it through the hole that leaves behind, so it's not real intrusive.
I was very hesitant to have this done because I thought they would have to lift the dash pad to access the passenger air bag. Now that I know it is done this way I will follow through with the recall.

FWIW - this recall work is fairly minor & easy to do. Certainly a very small inconvenience compared to being badly maimed (or worse) in an otherwise survivable/relatively minor accident.

Last I read at least 12 or 13 ppl (might be more by now) have been killed by Takata shrapnel and several more severely wounded. Please consider getting this done friend!

So, I purchased my '13 in February, 2017. It was in NC and I was in Illinois. It didn't show up on the recall lists other than for the alternator which I had taken care of. In August, 2017, we purchased a winter home in SC. The car is still registered in IL. Nonetheless, I received a recall letter this past Thursday for just the passenger air bag actuator. I have the work scheduled for this coming Thursday. I do, however, have 2 questions that will prove my ignorance. How on earth does FCA know I have the car in SC half the year as it has only been serviced in IL? Secondly, why only the passenger side. Isn't the driver side actuator made by the same company and identical in composition to the passenger side?

Thanks for your reply, I will get it done but it’s sad that most employees of whatever dealership have little to zero care about the people they serve. I’ve made a 42 year career exclusively working on high end homes, going above and beyond and charging accordingly. Almost none of the contractors that I came up with through the years are still in business. As it’s said you reap what you sow.

I received a letter for the recall regarding my 2014 SXT and Crown Dodge in Ventura, CA gave me an appointment exactly one month from now. I showed them the letter saying I wasn't exactly comfortable driving this vehicle loaded with metal shrapnel and they refused to cover a rental or provide a loaner vehicle in the meantime. Do I have any options? I asked them if they expected me to drive the vehicle this way until then and they said that is what Chrysler expects of their customers.....Unbelievable.

Sitting in the dealership right now having mine done. I thought due to the amount of time that had passed I was in the clear. I looked up the process in the service manual, they should be done in less than an hour.

I had my passenger side done about 2 weeks ago, the dealer had it for about 3 hours which also included programming a new key fobik. No problems either here and I am pretty dang picky, lol. The drivers side was done awhile back already.

Ended up with a total of 2 hours but they performed the 27 point inspection as well. They could have save us both time because I'm right on top of that but.. no charge can't complain.

Sounds like there is a possibility I may get another for the driver side?

kind of odd that they would do one at a time. I would make a joke but the fact that there has been 15 deaths I will refrain. There must be something with how the inventory is preformed to track them all down.

If you don't min me asking how far apart was it in between the 2 recalls?

I'm thinking the same thing. I was in the dealership last Friday to make an appointment and had the passenger side done yesterday. Dropped it off at 8:30 and received a call at 10:10 that it was ready. The service writers couldn't explain why I wouldn't have received a recall notice for both sides. Oh well............................:brickwall:

I felt this way with the alternator recall. My understanding is there was a possibility if the alternator failed in the manner described the car could actually come to a fairly rapid halt. I didn't relish the thought of that happening at 75 or 80 mph. Having never (knock on wood) been in an accident, the airbag issue doesn't particularly disturb me. But, I wanted the recall work completed so if I should decide to sell/trade the car then it would be up to date in that regard.
