I have about 8000 songs on a USB3 thumb drive.
It is in the console USB port.
When car starts, it shows white box on screen saying its scanning the drive.
It is reading mp3 tags in files and updating the radio's database.
It takes 3 to 4 minutes of this before a song can be played.
So I pull in to get gas on the way to work and shut off the car.
Start car to complete drive to work.
Now it does another scan which causes another 4 minutes with no music.

Is there any way to cancel the second scan since no files changed during the 3 minutes the car was off? Just cancel the scan and assume the database is still correct.

Radio is 430N RHB with latest firmware version 50.

Copy the music to the internal hard drive. The only way to get around the scanning.

internal drive is too small for that many songs.
also when I opted to compromise on having fewer songs available and tried the internal drive, I noticed that the playlists aren't shown at all.

Try several smaller thumb drives and only put ~1,000 on each. Swap 'em out when you want different music.

Nothing constructive to add. My wife's Escape would index the USB (with only 150 songs or so) quite frequently, for no apparent reason, and usually get hung up in the process.

I will thin down the number of songs to try to get the scan time down to 2 minutes.
At that point, I am sure they would all fit on the hard drive.
But then it wouldn't use all the m3u playlists that I rely on.

Are all the song files out on the main directory? Try putting them into sub-directories.......

Sub folders by album.
