Anybody else have their water pumps fail like this? It has a pinhole leak coming out of the casing and not at a seam. I've owned countless vehicles over the years and have never seen anything like this before. Doing some quick recon leads me to believe that the factory water pumps are garbage. Have any of you members replaced yours with a better non-OEM unit? If so, let me know if there is a better alternative.

The water pump in my 2015 SRT Challenger failed on Tuesday --- at 15,575 miles. Fortunately, I have 5 weeks remaining in the original factory warranty.

Mine wasn't a pin hole. The bearings failed and it gushed coolant in a catastrophic fashion and soaked everything in the engine bay.

Kudos to the dealer. My car arrived via flatbed at about 3:30pm on Tuesday and was ready for pickup by about 3:00pm the next day.

Mine hasn't begun to leak, but I'm at 17k and it is grinding like crazy. I have a trip next week, but as soon as I'm back I'm taking it to the dealer.

I should know more in two weeks. I'd take it to the dealer ASAP, maybe have it towed there for good measure.

That sucks. My warranty was over in January but it's not a big deal as I like to do my own work. My car is not a daily driver but this is crazy. My pump never made any noise and the car was cool as a cucumber out here in AZ with 115+ degrees out here in the summer. This just looks like a material failure of sorts and is frustrating.

It is, between the squealing brembos and the water pump, my car sounds like it was built some time in the 80s.

I had mine replaced at around 26k miles and now at 48k miles it's starting to make noise again like it did the first time. NOT HAPPY! I have an appointment Monday so I'll see then. I swapped out the Brembo pads at about the same time as the water pump. They were also squealing like crazy. Using Power Stop Z26 now and their great...

Hopefully you aren't going to continue to drive the car with the noisy and bad water pump?

If you are I urge you to reconsider. A noisy water pump can suffer a catastrophic failure then at any time. Getting a noisy but intact and functioning water pump replaced is a walk in the park compared to having to deal with a car that has suffered from a water pump failing catastrophically, that can have the impeller making contact with the block, filling the cooling passages up with block and impeller debris, before the shaft snaps or the water pump housing breaks. Excessive water pump bearing play might cause the belt to jump off the pulley and at high engine speed busting something in the accessory drive area.

Plus losing coolant circulation is not good if the engine's working hard when this happens. Coolant flow comes to an abrupt halt and the heat load of the engine may result in oil break down and engine damage if the engine is left running for any length of time.

I drove the car from San Jose to Houston in 3 days, before I found out the rattle was coming from the water pump.

The rattle was very minor and not discernible when the hood was open. I figure maybe something was loose, like an exhaust or heat shield.

It should last me through the weekend before my business trip, since I've notified my workplace that I would not be there the Monday after my return.

The pump on my wife's '16 Charger R/T went south at 20K. The dealer had to install an aftermarket (NAPA) pump. We were told the MOPAR pumps have been back ordered for months.
My 17 R/T with 22K miles just got a new water pump today. In addition while doing the repair the tech noticed the radiator was leaking slightly around the plastic tanks. Which was also replaced. Apparently the water pumps are available now as the dealer had several in stock.

Just replaced mine today after waiting 7 days for it to get delivered. The inside is completely eaten away all the way to the surface. There were a couple more areas that were about ready to pop as well. The inside of that thing looked like it came off a car with 100K miles....crazy. The bearings are completely fine, however. Pretty straight forward install with the right tools and an extra hand. Hopefully the new one holds up a little longer.

What's up with FCA/Dodge and water pump failures.
Just had to replace the water pump on my Ram 3500 6.7L Cummins. FCA has water pump issues on ever vehicle they make car or truck. When I start my Challenger in the mornings I hear a weird noise until it warms up. Think I better investigate this weird loud sound farther. Be doing it since new off the lot 2 weeks ago with 9 miles on it. Now with 1600 miles on it same noise. Water Pump???

Dropped my car off two days ago, also had the check out a squeak in my seat, a rattle on the interior, and a rubbing sound when I do a U-turn.

Day two of driving this KIA Soul and it lives up to its name. It sure has sucked mine dry of any fun...

Do you feel like your dragging your azz across the ground in that rat buggy?
I bet there is nothing but white knuckle driving in that thing.
Take a Challenger in for warranty and drive off in a rice burner rat buggy. Some customer care. Safe car to a death trap box with 4 small tires.
