I finally mounted my Weld wheels with Mickey Thompson 275/40/17 Drag Radials. They hook on the street but I don't like the look. The tire diameter is not tall enough and I'm not lowering the car. Back to the drawing board. I'll try the M&H 275/50 R 17. It's a 28" dia DR. At least I stop the spin when the boost kicked in but the look S---!

I'd try those tires at the track first before swapping. It seems most folks going to a 274/40-17 (26" tire) vs. a 275/50-17 (28" tire) are going a bit faster at the track. Obviously it's changing the gearing.

X2! My M&H 275/50/17s filled out the wheel well pretty nicely, while my new 275/40/17 MT ETs look a little funny..
BUT at the track it helps a lot, wouldn't ever think about going to a taller tire unless I planned to run them on the street often. (Just because of looks)

What's your 60 FT and ET with the M&H vs the MT's? Prior to changing gears and wheels the car ran 12.34. Now I'm running 3.92 gears in an 2010 RT Auto, going to the shorter MT is like having 4.11 gears. Until I get back to the track I'm not sure the MT is better than the M&H. I know speed is a sickness, as you can tell with the Mod's on this car. I had a mid 10 sec Mopar that I trailered to the track. I sold it and bought this car to drive on the street, to Mopar events and to the track. I want to break mid 11's and look good doing it this year. Thanks for the input and good luck this year.

PlumKrazy did a 11.83 at 118 on the 26" tire in his 6 speed Vortech'd R/T down in Orlando. I think PlumKrazy was running 114 traps before going to the shorter tire.

I'd definitely try them out to see how it does.

My 60' has gone down from a 1.80 to a 1.75 with just the tire change. I gained 1mph in the 1/8 and gained over a tenth in the 1/4(lost about .3 MPH because of the 3rd-4th gear shift right before the traps). Good luck, hope you can hit your mid 11 goal! I hope to make that an achievable goal in the next few years lol

BTW-hows your gas mileage with the 3.92s?

A 1/10 and 1.75 60 FT with 3.06's is pretty damn good. If you were going to 4th at the traps I'll probally be going to 5th. I'll let you know in a week or so. To much snow this year. Today was the first day out of the garage since November and putting the 3.92's in. With the 3.06's it was around 22 MPG highway. As gas prices go up and running 93+ oct. I'll probally have to remorgage my house. Good thing the RT is not my daily driver. Thanks

Thanks for posting the pics. Your right looks wise the tire doesn't fill the wheel well at all. Is that just going to be a strip setup or are you planning on running them on the street. Are you planning on running skinnies on the front.

The wheels fit great and cleared the larger sway bar and brakes. My plan was to run street and strip. Buy the skinnies for the front if I can find the right tire. But I don't like the short tires in the rear. I think I'm going to order the 28" M&H 275/50 R 17 and sell the MT 275/40/17. I want to hook and look good doing it. If it slows me down a few hundreds I can live with that. Their is always someone faster.

I ran a taller tire in orlando speedy but I also had a better tune... ill try and swap the ratio around a little if i make pony wars .. ive hit 118 on both setups. although i was faster in the middle of the runs on the shorter tire.. much quicker.. i feel the autos would kill on the 40.. the effective ratio on them with the tranny should knock off a tenth or so.. Also non boosted 6 speeds too.. the probem was that i am running out of gear on the boosted car with the 3.92s and the 26 inch tire.. the autos should be mid to high rpms with this setup...

Cool, that makes me feel better about going with the 275/50-17 for mine. Watching you guys burn it up on the 275/40-17s made me wonder if I shoulda gone that route.

You were running race fuel in Orlando I guess?

For the front Hoosier makes a street radial but it's only 26" tall also. I was looking into a steet tire size 215-65-17 which would fill the wheel well nicely. I was going to go with a 17x6 rim.

Plum,
So you are running the M&H 275/50 R 17's? I know we're talking apples and oranges with 6 sp vs auto. With the 3.06 and the 28" NT05's on my Heritage wheels ESP on and 8# of boost in Mid October I ran a 12.34 with a spinning 2.00 60 FT. @ 114. I'm hoping with the 3.92's lighter wheels and drag radials to break mid 11's. I saw where BKIRK 2010 auto RT, 3.92 and a Maggie ran 11.79 with Nitto 555 275/40/20. Just waiting on the tracks up here to open. All I want to do is hook. Can you post a pic of what the 275/50/17's look like on the rear? Thanks and good luck this year.

Thanks. I was thinking the same thing, smaller tires plus the torque of these 5.7s really helps! Even though having 3.06s lol

And I was looking at a gear calculator to see where you'd be shifting
Seems like with the 26" tires, you'll be going into 5th just after 110mph..While with the 28" tires, 4th gear will last right past 118.. Maybe the 28" tire will be your best bet seeing as you already threw the 3.92s in there, you'll be getting close to redline at the end of your run on the 28"s. But the 26" will have you shifting into 5th right before the traps (probably costing some MPH).

Exactly, I bought the 17" wheels before winter thinking it would geared down the 3.06's. The 3.92's and bigger axles came after a few cold ones, boredom and wanting to really hook. Just ordered a drive shaft loop and the 275/50/17's. and can't wait for the tracks.LOL

I just got the Borbay's with the M&H 275/50/18 looks a lot better than the 275/40/17.. had tryed them on car and had 5'' of space around the quater panel. just by looking at the on the car gut feeling they weren't right size. the 50/10 are taller more wall is what you want.

Does any one know what air PSI to run M&H Drag Radials @ track is good or start with? Starting number of 26 was given. Slight water burn out till slight smoke.
Thanks
