where did you get them from, looks like a demolished bearing or end of some sort of input/output shaft.

Let me get this straight...warranty claim? "honestly, as I reached the posted speed coming up the on-ramp the dang thing went KA-BOOM" I feel for you, man! Zeb

Feeling sorry for your tranny. Now you should install a NAG1.

any idea what caused that apart from the general "it was the shift kit"?

She's onto a good point - obviously a 42RLE tranny is best left in its stock config. The W5A580 has much more torque capacity and since it bolted right up the the late '09 and up SEs with 3.5s, would be a relatively easy swap (with the appropriate TCM and PCM changes).

i would need a complete donor car to convert to the 5-speed trans.
would need to change:
transmission
torque converter
PCM
TCM
engine/trans wire harness
body wire harness
drive shaft
rear differential
shifter
then add the complete ESP/BAS/ABS system (that would need a wheel speed sensors, modules, etc...)

then comes all the programing issues. not worth it at this time. a good used trans can be had for $600. a few hours to install and i am back on the road.
