So ive heard from not to get "cheap" gas because it has more water in it or its a lesser quality of fuel. Is there any validity to this? I typically have gotten gas at shell or other main stream fueling stations.

Thoughts?

If you typically go to Shell continue to do so.

No water in gas otherwise all of our cars would be dead. It’s additives that sets them apart. For example Wawa gas is cheap because they don’t have all the lovely additives that help keep your engine running clean. That’s where you hear people say to stick to top tier gas like BP, Shell, Mobil1 etc. Also helps negate the extra step of an ejection cleaner.

I can get bp and shell for less than wawa lately, something’s backwards there lately.

Yeah, I never thought it was a wise choice to the dusty, old, local boy gas. Sticking with the main companies (or top tier as previously mentioned). I recently got a Sam's club membership. I would think Sam's club gas and Walmart gas is the same? Ive maybe used Walmart gas once or twice since Ive gotten my challenger but mostly Shell or Chevron, sometimes racetrack but where I am at, they are most expensive for some reason... Also if it matters I am running regular 85. nothing special

Brand doesn’t matter…. Local stations all get their gasoline from the same fuel farm. Some brands claim better additives than others but I’m here to tell you many times those additives are not added.

5.7 should get 89 octane, the regular is best saved for rentals.

BP and Chevron for the most part with Exxon/Mobil as well. Even with name brands (top tier fuels) I still add Chevron Techron additive to the tank once each year. Never an issue with any of my rides over the decades.

My favorite was Pure 93 no ethanol. The Scat loved it. I could feel the difference, especially low in the rpm range. They went out of business and reopened as a Chevron. :( Not that Chevron is bad gas, it's actually one of my preferred brands. But all their gas has ethanol in it.
Right now I am using Shell 93 Nitro/10% ethanol and the Scat runs very good on it. Just not quite as good as on the Pure. At least to me.

Owner manual says otherwise... are you saying dodge is wrong?

Asking not being sarcastic
You can get away with 87 if you have an auto, the computer will adjust the timing, If you have a manual it's 89 only.
I have an auto and ran 87. My engine failed @ 8200 miles, I won't take a chance with 87 going foreword.
