Nice upgrade to the chargers nav unit, why not the challenger? Is this something we'll see in the future? I think the challenger needs some upgrades that the charger has the options for, like heated and cooled seats/cupholders, dual zone a/c, little stuff like that looks so clean from the factory. anyone else like to see this kind of stuff in the challenger?

Guessing this won't happen for another couple of years, but who knows. I agree the radio would be nice, but all the other stuff is the antithesis of what the Challenger stands for in my opinion. Muscle cars are supposed to be all about the performance and bang for the buck. That's why they make the Charger.

By the way, I notice you just joined and this is your first post so let me be the first to officially welcome you to ChallengerTalk!!

Haha well thanks for all the warm welcome!
I agree that its dead weight but being a former 300 srt owner, i gotta say its making me want to buy another one of those over a new challenger just cause of all the new gadgets. I almost wish i could stuff the 300 interior into the challengers body

Someone close to the action stated that the current interior will be the same for 2012 model year. Maybe 2013... 2014.. or never.

Could it use some nicer features... yea... but... I will take the Challenger interior over the Camaro and Mustang myself... just me though...

What exactly does the 300 have that you want in the Challenger? Looking at a loaded Challenger, it has heated seats, heated side view mirrors, 30-Gig HD, power seats, auto temp control, Sirius radio, NAV, auto-dim mirror, etc. This is a pretty fully loaded package for any car. No air conditioned seats or dual climate control, but other than that, what else is missing?

Funny reading these threads, its the same on the Corvette forums. You got the guys who want nothing but performance, don't even want power windows in the car (although I can't imagine rolling up windows ever again), and then you have the guys who want every luxury item possible, plus performance. Its all a compromise.

As a daily driver, you typically want more "luxury" items, makes your commute much nicer. Purely a garage queeen or weekend only toy, you can live with less of these. I'll admit I've become spoiled, I like all the gadgets and items that are available, and I always want a fully loaded car anymore (plus performance and looks, of course).

my guess was 2012, but RS said no major changes...my guess is never

will the Challenger evolve or just be canceled? im sure gas prices will have a large impact

2012... RS said no major changes
I was going to wait to 2012-13 to seriously think about switching to a 392. I was thinking that I'd hate to see a new interior come out, again, after I bought a new car. (90 to 91 Dodge Daytona ring a bell).

But when I saw what RS said, I changed my mind and was open to getting an '11. (Ok, I got an '11 model)

Well I could be wrong, actually I hope I am but according to the President of Fiat, the Challenger isn't supposed to make it beyond 2014. The reason being the new CAFE fuel mileage standard set to begin in 2016. So from what I can tell, its 2012 or bust. Why come in and redo the interior if your going to discontinue making the car in a year or two? Makes no sense but who knows, stranger things have happened before. Personally going to a two tone color like the R/T Charger wouldn't look so bad provided the cars color was matching it. As of now all the Challengers seem to be coming out in strong, vibrant colors. So a black dash area goes well with everything. Even the inaugural edition 2011's have the black dash despite what the outside color is.
My suggestion for you if you want to brighten things up a bit is to get a chrome interior kit from carID or new challengerparts, com, etc. Installing a full chrome interior set would wake up that black slab you stare at while driving.
HTH's!

Having a classic Challenger, I find the current Challenger's interior to be very much in keeping with tradition. Fancy was not the word to describe the 70's interior. I appreciate the engineers for not making the new one Fancy either.

All they need is a mix of aluminum on the current dash..then it'd be good, it's too bland, that's why i added a brushed aluminum kit just to make it pop..now I enjoy it a lot more ;D

Wonder how the new dashes rattle compared to the old ones...

They really need to offer a few options to make the interiors more individualistic. Why does every challenger have to be equipped with a black interior? black seats, black carpet? first thing i did was have the seatcovers swapped out with tan camel seatcovers from katzkins, then i added a woodgrain dash kit to lighten up the looks of the interior, it made a world of difference to me in enjoying the cars interior. Black is nice on black cars, and on red cars, but it shouldn't be the only choice available on ALL cars. Just goes to show that dodge lacked an imagination and wanted to keep the interiors as cheap as possible.

One of the reasons I picked the Challenger was the interior. Loved the gauges and dash. It felt more retro to me and like a "man's car" on the inside. Of course, maybe I'm wired different. After all, I wanted a 6-speed with the 27F package (cloth seats, minimal crap).

The only 2 comfort creatures I miss since mine is a daily driver is bluetooth radio/phone connectivity and direct plug of my MP3 player. I can add these options, and it is much cheaper to do AFTER getting the 27F package vs trying to load up before hand, which was forcing me to order leather and all other sorts of crap I didn't want.

Although I understand the '11 models may come with those 2 features now.

Either way, I'd prefer more power and less gadgets. That's what this car is all about, the driving experience.

Did you do this on your yellow Challenger in your avatar? I've owned yellow vehicles in the past and could never imagine going tan interior and wood grain with yellow on the outside.

Got any pics?

My guess is the next change for the upcoming years with Challengers will be offering other interior colors -

The 2011 R/T Plus Charger offers three interior leather options:
- Black & Radar Red
- Black & Tan
- Black & Black

The seat facings and door panels are in the contrasting color. In the prior years, the lower dash panels were in lighter color (tan) with the dark dash cap.

I suspect the Challenger dash will remain in dark slate color.

Ralph Gilles (I think at the LA Auto Show--when presenting the whole new R/T lineup), when talking about the R/T Caravan said something to the effect that the interior is a "true man cave--dark, ..."
So, aparently, that's what's in his head: That all guys like dark caves for their car interior.

I heard Ralph Gilles say the same thing at the Chicago Auto Show. There is a video of that presentation on Red Letter Dodge.
