My 2012 R/T 6MT is just about to turn 30K miles. It';s a daily driver. I'm trying to determine which services that are listed in the maintenance schedule are a good idea to perform versus a waste.

Here's what my dealer lists online for the standard 30K-mile service:

Change engine oil & filter $43.97
Multi-point inspection $0.00
Rotate tires $24.95
Change manual transmission fluid $90.34
Inspect brake linings $0.00
Inspect front suspension, tie rod ends and boot seals $0.00
Replace air conditioning filter $33.14
Replace standard spark plugs $258.20
Replace engine air cleaner filter $43.82
Adjust parking brake on vehicles equipped with four wheel disc brakes $110.00

Please comment.

THANKS

My 2012 R/T 6MT is just about to turn 30K miles. It';s a daily driver. I'm trying to determine which services that are listed in the maintenance schedule are a good idea to perform versus a waste.

Here's what my dealer lists online for the standard 30K-mile service:

Change engine oil & filter $43.97 Yes, unless you've been doing it yourself.
Multi-point inspection $0.00 Why not, price is right.
Rotate tires $24.95 Yes.
Change manual transmission fluid $90.34 YES. Most owners of manuals don't realize this is specified every 30K.
Inspect brake linings $0.00 Why not.
Inspect front suspension, tie rod ends and boot seals $0.00 Why not.
Replace air conditioning filter $33.14 Cabin air filter? Probably not.
Replace standard spark plugs $258.20 YES. Again necessary every 30K miles.
Replace engine air cleaner filter $43.82 Yes.
Adjust parking brake on vehicles equipped with four wheel disc brakes $110.00 I wouldn't think that's necessary.

Please comment.

THANKS
Hope that helps...

There is a qualifier, if you RTFM, on the transmission fluid service. I don't know if you live in a high temperature area, but unless you're extended driving in 90 degree plus weather, it's not required. That said, WTH, it doesn't hurt. If it took you a while to reach 30000 miles, it really wouldn't hurt.

DJ, save yourself $200.00 and change the plugs yourself. The NGK's will run you about $75.00 for the 16 plugs, but this is the easiest engine I ever changed the plugs on. 2 or so hours of your time.

04 - Vehicle Quick Reference/Maintenance Schedules/Description

MAINTENANCE SCHEDULES - NAFTA AND PUERTO RICO

Oil Change Indicator System

The oil change indicator system reminds you that it is time to take your vehicle in for scheduled maintenance.
On the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) equipped vehicles “Oil Change Required” is displayed in the EVIC and a single chime sounds indicating that an oil change is necessary.
On non-EVIC equipped vehicles “Change Oil” flashes in the instrument cluster odometer and a single chime sounds indicating that an oil change is necessary.
Based on engine operating conditions the oil change indicator message illuminates. This means that service is required for your vehicle. Have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible, within the next 805 km (500 miles).

NOTE:

  • The oil change indicator message will not monitor the time since the last oil change. Change the vehicle oil if it has been six months since your last oil change even if the oil change indicator message is not illuminated.
  • Change your engine oil more often if you drive your vehicle off-road for an extended period of time.
  • Under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 8,000 miles (13,000 km) or six months, whichever comes first.
Oil Change Indicator- Reset

The vehicle is equipped with an engine oil change indicator system. The “Oil Change Required” message flashes in the EVIC display for approximately ten seconds after a single chime has sounded, to indicate the next scheduled oil change interval. The engine oil change indicator system is duty cycle based, which means the engine oil change interval may fluctuate depending upon your personal driving style.
Unless reset, this message continues to display each time you turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position. To turn off the message temporarily, press and release the Menu button. To reset the oil change indicator system (after performing the scheduled maintenance) perform the following procedure:

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position. Do not start the engine.
  2. Fully press the accelerator pedal slowly three times within ten seconds.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position.

NOTE:If the indicator message illuminates when you start the vehicle, the oil change indicator system did not reset. If necessary, repeat this procedure.
At Each Stop for Fuel

  • Check the engine oil level.
  • Check the windshield washer solvent and add if required.
Once a Month

  • Check tire pressure and look for unusual wear or damage.
  • Inspect the battery, and clean and tighten the terminals as required.
  • Check the fluid levels of coolant reservoir, brake master cylinder, power steering, and transmission, and add as needed.
  • Check all lights and other electrical items for correct operation.
At Each Oil Change

  • Change the engine oil filter.
  • Inspect the brake hoses and lines.
CAUTION:Failure to perform the required maintenance items may result in damage to the vehicle.

Golly gee! That last post just scared the hell out of me. If I do my own maintenance I could be seriously injured or die! :icon_eek:

I don't believe that you have to check the transmission fluid every month. If it was so important why remove the trans dipstick? As far as my GT's auto trans is concerned I will assume that the factory filled it to the right level and if I don't see any leaking out and the transmission is shifting right I won't worry about it until it is time to change it.
