Car wash tech ran my Challenger through the car wash with the window down. The "Supervisor" all of about 17 years old offered me 2 free car washes for the "MISTAKE". I demanded to speak with manager- not available- spoke with assistant manager- all of about 17 years old- looked at me with a blank stare as was fuming about what kind of idiot employee would send a car through with the window down. I was extremely po'd that they had just hosed down the interior of my Challenger. Complete interior of the car soaked with soapy water. Filled out their "claim" form as they attempted to extract water from the car. Tried for 3 days to get hold of the manager and district supervisor to find out what they were going to do about it. One phone number goes straight to VM. Other just rings and rings and rings. Finally received a return call 3 days later to be informed that they accept absolutely NO RESPONSIBILITY and I am SOL. Told me it is the customers responsibility to roll up the windows. WOW $1,500.00 in stereo equipment is now water damaged and glitching out. Only time will tell what other electrical components are damaged.

:fight:

Sucks that this happened but the way I see it is you need to file a police report and also make a claim on your car insurance. You may also consider a lawyer consultation. Water damage and electronics will never be the same

Yup. I've been to a few car washes, and I've never been satisfied, no matter how much I paid. Just a giant waste imo. It will take me 3 hours probably to get it all done... but it will be done properly. And I don't have to worry about some ret---d running the car through an automatic car wash to begin with.

I'm assuming this didn't happen at a Dealership? I'd contact the manager for sure if that doesn't get any attention and proper compensation for all the damage. Then you need to contact your insurance and then an attorney if that doesn't sort it out. How is it your responsibility to roll the windows up if the car is in there care?

A bad as it sucks, if the customer presented the vehicle with the window(s) down or the sunroof open, I'd put the blame on him as well. Different story if the car wash guys open them during a pre-wash interior clean... then squarely on them.

The best option might be to document everything, have it fixed, and then take them to small claims court but I might still contact an attorney first. Should be a guaranteed win and if the fixes plus other damages (time/work/etc) are under $5000, I think it'd fit in small claims and a reputable attorney could steer you in the right direction (whether small claims or lawsuit). I'm pretty sure if they were in operation of the vehicle when it went into the wash, THEY are responsible for anything that happens to it! Only way you'd be responsible for rolling up the windows is if you drove it into the wash yourself. If they were the last ones to operate it, it's their dime!

Things like this are why I never get out of my car and turn it over to someone else at a car wash. I use the automated ones when I have to use a car wash (rare instances like love bug season for example) and use touchless spray only. But you'll get no "lectures" from me! You don't need that on top of your current pain: you should be able to take your car to a car wash and not have this happen! So best of luck.

I stopped using car washes years ago because of this type of issue and potential damage to the finish by the machines. If I can't wash it myself, it doesn't get washed.

Wow! That is ridiculous. I suppose if you brought your convertible in to that place they would leave the roof down. Where are the brains on this one. I can't even imagine how you feel. Definitely a lawyer involved issue. Thats just insane. Were they too busy on their smart phone texting or facebooking on this one. Brother!!! Man, good luck on your issue. Be persistent and just take them out, legally of course. I think I would be in jail after that. I would have just beat the crap out of the kid.

Oh my gosh I'm so sorry this happened! D: I would be screaming if this happened to mine. I seriously wish you the best of luck with this man.
In general, and obviously I'm not judging or anything. I won't ever bring my Challenger to the car wash. Hand wash only. I've heard about how the machines in there can damage and streak your clear coat and paint. Just wouldn't wanna risk anything. Especially after hearing this story :( Your poor baby. Good luck with all this! Hope your Challenger feels better soon!

I was thinking the same thing (about the convertible, not beating the kid). ;) What if you left the drivers door open when you handed the kid the keys to pull it in the wash? Could he leave the door open and run it through the wash with it that way? No way. If they were in operation of the vehicle when they pulled it in the wash, it's their responsibility legally!

This is a good example of a sorry excuse for a business.

Edit: just did a quick search on Google for others who had the same thing happen. Looks like the general consensus is, if they were in possession of your keys when this happened, they are responsible. If you drove it into the wash that way yourself (which I don't think you did), then you would be responsible. But I suspect this happened while they were in possession of your keys, hence they are legally responsible for what happens to it while they are the "operator". At that point, it's really no different than them being responsible if they ran it into a pole when pulling it into the wash.

That's right. they take possession then they are responsible for the welfare of the vehicle. File a complaint with local law enforcement. and also with your insurance company. contact your lawyer if you think its worth that cost....remember you don't HAVE to have a lawyer to file a law suit.

Document everything, what happened and who you spoke to. Dates and times you tried to get resolution for the ownership.

Get a estimate on any repairs, file in small claims court to force them to pay the bill. Should be a easy win "if" you can prove damage.

Yeah...electronics and water do not mix. Problem is the damage is likely to slowly become evident over the life of the car. Could be minor things or could be life threatening things- like air bags that don't deploy when they should....or deploy when they should not.:surprise:
