I took 70challengerrt440's car out for a test drive. You can definitely tell when it goes into each gear.... you feel as if you are one with the transmission. Very nice setup.

How was the noise transmitted through the shifter vs the stocker?

HemiSam

I run the Pistol Grip handle. The gear whine was pretty bad at first. But I realized the two grips were acting like an amplifier. So I filled the voids of both halfs with rtv. That really made a difference.

Thanks, 70. If Hurst gets me my isolator kit this week like they're supposed to, I'll pull the shifter this weekend to see if I can get the noise down with two of the three recommendations on the other thread.

It's too bad that I can't check out your upgrade in person. I'm pretty happy with the Hurst when it's tight and doesn't rattle like a cricket. If it's going to be noisy anyway, I might be up for a firmer feel.

I am using the cue ball, 70. I planned on going pistol grip, but that classic style and the white against the black interior just worked for me.

Looks like a couple of plastic bits with holes in them to allow the allen bolts that hold the shifter handle to the shifter to go through them. Called them a third time today and the ensured they'll be on their way. If I get them by Saturday, I'll install them and Spencer's recommendation on Sunday.

I would highly recommend this recently installed mod....

I'll start out by saying when the stock shifter rod was removed it had major damage to the upper and lower o-rings plus damage to the back support section where you could tell the block had impacted it with force.

With the new shifter rod you "know" when your in gear so you will not miss gears as you may with the spongy feeling of the stock shifter rod.

All in all an excellent mod... gives you the feeling like you're shifting a race car.

You do get some vibration noise but nothing that's obnoxious.

Just to clarify 09b5srt... When he refers to "Stock shifter" He means the Hurst short throw shifter.... His shifter could rotate aprox. 20 degs and the 2 o-rings that he mentioned were almost crushed. This shifter was only in for 4 months.

Sounds like my experience with my first Hurst. Second one seems to be holding up better, but I haven't driven as aggressively lately due to lack of time. We'll see how it holds up by year's end.

Hey all.. I have the first 6 throw rods going out this next week. It would be a lot easier for me if who ever wants a kit to add there name here.. And copy and paste the other people on the list to keep a running list. As I get to your name I will contact you. The more I can get the faster they can be made. ( my machinist will use his cnc instead of a manual lathe if the numbers are supported)

Ok I do have an amendment to this mod. I have designed a bushing to replace the 3 o-rings that are on the shaft holding the shifter block onto the throw-rod. This mod will change the price a bit and of course you can opt out and not have this mod. As I get the details worked out I will let you know.
