I'm getting ready to do my 1st oil change. I have an SRT filter ready plus a magnetic drain plug.
Is anyone cutting their filter open looking for camshaft and or lifter pieces/debris?

Be mindful how you cut the oil filter open can give you false positives with metal. It has to be cut open like a you would a can with a can opener and nothing requiring a blade or sawing action.

Far as my 5.7, I just get oil analysis done and look for elevated iron.

You would not be able to see the bearing material deposited in the filter pleats unless they were trashed, and if they get trashed, it won’t be driven long enough to make it until the next oil change.

Unless you have good reason to suspect things are going awry inside the engine, cutting open the oil filter at each OCI is a poor use of your time/energy resources.

It won’t hurt anything to do it, but there are so many other things you could do with that time and energy that would have appreciable results.
