Hey guys,

I plasti dipped my hood just to see what it would look like this weekend and I love it!.. Im thinking about getting it painted black permanently, how much should i expect to shell out for a good paint job for the hood...and also will the vinyl have to be removed for them to paint the hood? I uploaded a pic of the dip lemme know what u think...

Looks great. 300-400$. Do it right and get the underside done too.

yes the vinyl needs to come off. The shop has to prep the hood, which means sanding it down to get the original color off so they can lay the new color down.

I think that getting it wrapped (with vinyl) is a better option if you want to maintain the original color underneath the wrap.

Looks great...Plasti-Dip is some awesome stuff! matte black paint isn't super easy to maintain though...I would just do a vinyl wrap (and I did).

I never even thought of a vinyl wrap. What's the price range for a matte black vinyl wrap? Seems like that's the way to go....

A vinyl wrap would be about $300-$500 depending on your installer.
I have a buddy that did his whole car and was charged $2600 after I was quoted $4200 at another place just 3 weeks earlier. Same 3M material...yes my car is larger but his would be harder (CTS-V) due to all the angles on it. So main difference would be labor rate from installer.
Paint would be closer to $800-$900 and IF you go this route I would have them mix some clear with the matte black so it holds up better. But it's difficult to maintain. Wraps you can clean with windex and water...easy. And if you somehow mess it up...can be redone. Not to mention, if you ever had to sell your car and someone doesn't like what you did, you can peel the wrap off and the paint underneath is like the day you put the wrap on as it has been protected from the elements...
OR you can just leave the PD on there...I have seen them hold up for a year and be fine.
