2010 RTC remote start not working.
Has anyone encountered this problem with their car before?
Fobs have new batteries.
Thanks.

Do you get a horn beep when you try to remote start or just nothing at all?

Mine is a 09 but one beep (or flash) means some required input is not made up - hood switch, door not latched, etc. Two beeps then the car will start. If it shuts down after a few seconds, there is some other problem, low fuel, MIL code set, etc.

There have been a number of threads on this, so do a bit of searching. The short response is that the remote start is really sensitive to the condition of the car. Low fuel, window or trunk open, unlocked, a trouble light on, and a number of other conditions can make the remote start unhappy. I sometimes feel like I have to go through a checklist when I get out to make sure the remote start will work when I want it to.

No, because they don't want the car starting remotely while someone may be under the hood working on it.

Yeah, that's a common way to disable the remote start feature: some people who don't want the remote start (inadvertent starts due to button pressing in pocket) will disconnect the hood switch so it fakes the hood being open all the time. Maybe take a voltmeter and check the hood switch to be sure the switch itself is actually functioning. Inspecting the switch by eye might not be good enough.

From the OWNERS MANUAL:

How To Use Remote Start
All of the following conditions must be met before the
engine will remote start:
• Shift lever in PARK
• Doors closed
• Hood closed
• Hazard switch off
• Brake switch inactive (brake pedal not pressed)
• Ignition key removed from ignition switch
• Battery at an acceptable charge level, and
• RKE PANIC button not pressed.

NOTE:
• If an engine fault is present the vehicle will start and
then shut down 10 seconds later.
• The park lamps will turn on and remain on during
Remote Start mode.
• For security, power window and power sunroof operation
(if equipped) are disabled when the vehicle is
in the Remote Start mode.
• The engine can be started two consecutive times with
the RKE transmitter. However, the ignition must be
cycled by pushing the START/STOP button twice (or
the ignition switch must be cycled to the ON position)
before you can repeat the start sequence for a third
cycle.

My 2010 had the same problem. Remote start would work only some of the time. Dealer replace 4 different remote start systems. They replace the instrument cluster. They replaced the key FOBs three times. They replaced the WIN modules three times. They replace the door computers.

Finally one day they were checking it out and got a error code to pop up on its own. The error code was Hood was open. But the hood was closed. Turned out the plunger switch under the hood was to low and the hood when closed was not making the switch all the time. They had to put a shim under the switch to shim it up so the hood would make the switch al the time. Have not had a problem since. Took them about 4 years to find this problem. I have told others about this problem that I know had this problem. They shimmed the switch up themselves and no more problem.

Hope this helps you
