Why I like Extended Warranties!

I purchased my 2013 Challenger R/T back in November of 2012. Over the years I have been re-purchasing the Mopar Max Care warranty which unfortunately is up in November. Over the years they have replaced my front suspension 3 times, rack and pinion, intake manifold, HVAC actuators, repaired various leaks, replaced the steering column, etc.

All these years I have been complaining about the hemi tick / exhaust leak. I finally took the car to the dealer and gave them a list of concerns and told them I would pay a tech 1 hour at full shop rate to go over the car a few weeks ago.

Today the dealer finally called me and said that they are waiting on approval from Mopar to replace the cam, lifters, the AC evaporator, and a few other minor items.

I am going to see how much they would charge to put headers on since the heads are going to be off. But for everyone who says don't get the extended warranty it has paid for it self 10x over.

I have always purchased the extended warranty on all my cars and feel they have paid for themselves every time. I know others will disagree but as my wife says "you are the only person I know who actually uses a warranty for everything you buy".

I tacked on an extra 5yrs of coverage for about $18/mo. No regrets. As stated above, I’d prefer not having any problems over making a claim. Paying for nothing more than peace of mind is fine for me.

For the 13 years I've had one I paid roughly 6k or a little over 500 a year. The last one I purchased back in 2020 was 2400 for 5 years 50k miles and 200 deductable.

I purchased mine though some of the third party sites that sell mopar warranties so there is no dealer markup.

I look at it like homeowners or auto insurance. You hope you never have to use it but its good to know if something goes wrong its there.

If I never use my Lifetime Warranty, I won't consider that losing as I'd be very happy to have never had a mechanical problem while having peace of mind all those years

There's 2 schools of thought on extended warranties. Like you, they work for some people, but for the majority of others, it's a waste of money. Think on it, you pay for a plan, and it ends up saving you more on the long run. However, most people pay for the warranty and never use it. Thus, at the end of the day, they make net profit. I'll skip the part how they use your payment to fill up an investment account like insurance companies do with your premiums. That's how they make their money.

Now, the other line of thought is, never buy an extended warranty. Instead, most major auto insurance companies have plans you can buy that covers repair work. They generally cost around $100-$150/yr (cost variable depending on car) with around a $250-$500 deductible. It covers a lot more than the extended warranties usually cover without all the conditions. So, if your car blows an engine, that plan pays for the repair after you pay the deductible. This insulates you from costly critical component failures like an extended warranty at 10% the cost of an extended warranty. Unlike extended warranties, if you never use it, you're only out a fraction of the money.

I generally buy used 3-5 year old cars from private owners so warranties in general, are gone. I look at extended warranties as more of a savings account. If you pay 2000 - 5000 in over a period of time, and need a 3000 repair, you basically paid for it,.... they were just holding your money for you.
I can hold my own money. 🤣

My cars are usually 10 years old or older. I never buy warranties. I can see where they can pay for themselves, but I also hear that many of the warranties are worthless to the consumer and cash cows to the warranty company that never pays out.

Always buy extended warranty as well; have always been worth it for me.

Maybe I got lucky, or maybe buying this warranty while the car is new got me a better deal?. My car was less than a year old, and I got an extended Mopar warranty for 8 years or 60,000 miles. Whatever comes first. I bought it from Granger who is a member here. It was only $1125. I thought that was a steal. I figure, by that time if I hadn't needed to use the warranty, then I bought a good car. If I do have to use the warranty, then it will pay for itself because any repair will be more than $1125 these days.

I don't usually buy extended warranties but did on the Scat Pack. The Uconnect screen started to delaminate & I got the radio replaced under the extended warranty & got the deductible waived. I understand the radios are about $1500, so in this case my $900 extended warranty paid for itself. I don't know what Dodge would have done regarding any good will gesture if I did not have the warranty.

I do my grocery shopping at 6AM when the store opens because I don't like crowds or door dings. I noticed a lady who works the opening shift who drives a purple'ish Hemi, with at least aftermarket wheels. I talked to her for a bit and how she likes the car and if she had any issues. She said she blew the motor at 60,000 miles but that Dodge had a lifetime repair warranty thing going on when she bought hers and said they replaced it no questions asked. At first I was like sh!t they gave you a lifetime warranty and swapped it for free but she did pay for that warranty, I think it was like 10 grand for the extended lifetime warranty maybe less don't remember but in her case anyway it paid for itself.
