If you where in the Market for a brand new 2022 Hellcat within a certain budget would you rather buy a Hellcat Widebody with a manual transmission or would you rather a standard Hellcat with an automatic?

I know which one I would rather. I won't say for now. Just curious which you guys would chose?

My Hellcat was a NB with an A8.

Not sure how well the WB add on flares are going to fare over the long haul and exposure to the elements. And the flares of course scream "AFTERTHOUGHT".

Sure while the WB comes with wider tires the car will still be under tired. There is just too much car too much HP for it to be otherwise.

Based on my Hellcat and now Scat Pack experience whichever car you got I'd be sure to have it with high performance tires. All season tires do not belong on a Hellcat regardless if it a NB or WB.

While I initially embraced the A8 the 2nd hand info I got was dealers were reluctant to service this transmission and those that did charged a lot of money. I don't buy into that lifetime fluid BS and prefer to have the vital automatic transmission fluid changed "early" and then periodically as time goes by. Same as what I do for all my cars equipped with a manual transmission.

Certainly the A8 equipped car is faster. My Hellcat would gain speed at an amazing rate the up shifts were so fast along with of course 707hp pushing the car forward.

But one reason why I traded in the Hellcat for a 2020 Scat Pack was to get back into a car with 6-speed manual transmission. A simpler easier to maintain drive train.

So all other things being equal I'd vote for NB with a 6-speed manual.

If 2022 is anything like 2021, Stellantis might force your hand on the whole Manual vs. Auto thing. If you decide you want the M6, the next question will be "How long can I stand to wait before ordering (and waiting some more)?"

Keep in mind that even if M6 is available for MY '22 when the orders open this week (allegedly), production isn't supposed to start until Dec. Best case - 22 models start arriving in Feb.

That's works out perfect. Being that I live in the North East I actually wouldn't even want to take delivery until end of March or April. I think I'll be good. I probably wouldn't order until January to make sure that happens!! Maybe even later.

Yes, you need the rubber! And after having 485 HP with the M6, I dream about how much fun it would be with 700+ HP! 5th and 6th would become "fun" gears!!! ;)

My choice would be a Widebody 8Sp, but then my opinion is kinda irrelevant as I've still never driven a Challenger.

and losing is just losing. Sorry but i cant see the mentality of buying a brand new hellcat and opting it to be slower. Ill add that putting a scat down the track with a stick takes a very experienced driver. Running a hellcat down the track with a stick takes about a pro level driver. Raise your hand if you really think your good enough with a stick to do it. Ive been racing since the 70s and mostly with sticks and even I admit it would be enough of a challenge to keep it straight let alone not missing a shift or hitting the rev limiter and getting the launch perfect. But then some are legends in there own mind. Good reason dodge doesnt even offer a redeye or demon with a stick. They know short of a professional racer its just silly. Im out of here get you last word in. Maybe add a bit of resume along with it.

I've watched races where the manual and auto Hellcats were pretty close. If you know how to shift it will be a better race then you think. Especially if we are talking about a manual widebody vs an auto standard body Hellcat on skinnier tires assuming we are talking stock for stock.

Most people that buy Hellcats don't professionally race. That's the reality. I love manual muscle cars. My 6 speed Scat Pack toke me to another place when I drove it. Between shifting and the exhaust note overcomes my senses and I feel like the main character in a movie. It's an experience. Knocking .2 seconds off is worth it.

I took an automatic Scat for a test drive while car shopping and it wasn't the same cruising it around. Totally different experience. Almost soulless and boring. Sure great for drag racing though I would imagine. Just step on the pedal and take off and let the car do the driving and shifting for you. Again boring.

Another thing if you buy the manual and you're dead set on racing but want the shifting experience you're still good because most places have a manual class!! So you're racing against other manuals. The way racing should be anyway. If you want to race open class just practice shifting get good at it and you'll still fair well.

I don't know. It's definitely a personal preference and there's no wrong answer. But I feel like I would be happier with the Widebody Hellcat with the Manual. I'll get that amazingly fun shifting experience and much more rubber on the road as well with the 305s!! Win win.

auto 8. I'm traditionally a manual guy, but the automatics in these cars shift so well, and in my middle ages of life, I'll take the auto. not only that, but I like the clean, classic look of the traditional challenger a lot better than the WB. Besides, I'd never need the little bit extra traction and better handling of the WB anyway, my Scat with dynamics has all I'd need/want

there's been a production hold on Hellcat M6 - so there weren't any '21s built w/ M6 for 'Cats

there's been internal communications of trying to have M6 'Cats in production ~ Mar '22, but even now the order banks for '22 haven't been opened yet and start date has been pushed out 3 weeks beyond original planned start date

Let's really think about this question. We are talking about a Monster of a vehicle that is in my opinion built for one thing, to go fast in a straight line. This amount of power can't be used not he street , either can the Scat Pack as they are also pretty damn powerful. These vehicles are purpose built for the track and trying to get good ET's with a Manual is mental. Sure I'm sure someone can pull it off but with consistency? Not sure unless your a professional race car driver.

For the street , I'm thinking a nice R/T with a Shaker package and a Manual is the perfect blend of power sound fun excitement etc. Anything past that your basically out of control. The Scat pack can be argued that a manual without trips tot he drag strip would also make for a hell of a fun car. I will have to agree but with some restraint. This car is powerful and can get out of control if an in experienced driver is manning the wheel.

The Hellcat and above? I just think it's wickedly over powered for the street and trying to control a manual gear box, with all that power , trying to daily drive it or untying like that is ludicrous.

Ok I'm a car guy and love the Hellcat is a thing. I want one myself. But for a manual car I would never ever consider one in that configuration.
