SXTs have been known to have a thump sound on startup. Several threads with various troubleshooting, so that may be normal. The random shut off is not however

Just to clear things up a bit. The stall speed (RPM) of a torque converter is an arbitrary number. It varies from one vehicle to the next. It is the RPM at which the brakes can no longer keep the vehicle from moving.

We have locking torque converters that use a third input shaft in the transmission. The transmission input shaft may look like one shaft but it's actually three shafts contained within each other. The third shaft is what controls the lock up switch in the locking torque converter. The transmission control module uses a number of factors to determine when to activate the third shaft and lock the converter. Get it right and a transmission will feel like it has one more gear than it does. Get it wrong or if the switch in torque converter is bad, it may lock up when the engine RPM is too low to support a direct drive condition. Sometimes the car will bog heavily and other times the engine will just stop.

When RPM's are low and the lock up switch is bad you may hear a clunk or thud when placing the transmission in gear. Depending on driving style and conditions, once RPM's rise and transmission pressures rise, the car will move but the next shift may stall the engine. This can happen because while vehicle speed is correct for the shift, RPM's are way too low.

In my original response I stated that I knew it was a torque converter issue. That did not mean that the torque converter itself was bad, it could be caused by a number of things not working properly but most assuredly, it is something in the transmission/torque converter chain of events that is not happening when it is supposed to.

Thank you for this answer 🙏 But the question above about idling might be another issue, and idk is it related to transmission or not. Basically I wanted to know can 3.6 engine idle 500 rpm while standing or not?🤔 do you have any thoughts on that? Is it normal or not? If I’ll go to the dealer I’ll also tell them about this issue, not only about random stalling

If your transmission is going straight to lockup then engine RPM's may be lower than normal. I use "may" and "might" a lot because I can't drive the car and don't have any way of giving a definitive answer. All I want to try to do is give you some insight as to what might be causing the problem so you can communicate it better when trying to get it fixed.

Armed with what you know now, I would first get in touch with @DodgeCares and follow their advice as far as next steps. If it was me, I would tell the selling dealer to fix it or own it, but that's just me. At 70 I don't have enough time left in my life for mediocracy.

Hello @YAmac!

We would be more than willing to discuss this matter further via private message thread. Looking forward to hearing from you.

And thank you to @2012 White R/T for the mention! Appreciate you assisting.

You’re right, mine does this too and I’ve never been able to get an answer.

I have a 2019 V6 (I bought brand new in 2019), but have never noticed a thump or whump. Except for when I am in reverse and stop suddenly (I hope it's not a ball joint going bad already). I have a Borla ATAK Exhaust which could drown it out. I'll pay closer attention from now on.
This is just a theory... When you stop your car to be done driving, do you pull up and immediately turn off the engine, or do you idle it down for a few seconds. It shouldn't matter....just a thought.

.... That's very odd, please be extremely careful! And in all reality, Dodge should get you a rental until they get it fixed! And that's funny, there was a mechanic/technician on here not too long ago, that was arguing with someone saying there had to be a code thrown for something different than yours, but yet, yours didn't throw anything. Hopefully he sees this! 🤞
Hello, guys! I need help. A couple of weeks ago I bought myself a car that I wanted for a long time and problems immediately began ... Car - 2023 Challenger SXT, brand new. Mileage is now only 600 miles. It all started with a random thud under the driver's seat. When I start the car, sometimes this thud is present and sometimes it isn't. Very unpleasant thing. I thought it would go away, but it doesn't. Also, last week the car randomly shut off while driving. To be more precise - during the start of the driving. I start driving from a traffic light, the car wants to change gear from first to second, as if choking and turning off. After that, I took it to the dealer, but as you can imagine, they don't know what's wrong, because there is not a single error code and the car does not stall all the time. They tested it and the car didn’t die under them. After that, I drove 300 miles, everything was fine, but the thud at startup did not go away. And today the problem with the stalled engine recurred. What are your thoughts on this? To at least give a tip to another dealer to know where to look. Could it be the transmission? Thank you in advance.
I bought a brand new 2023 Challenger sxt. Now has 2500 miles on it could also hear a thud while driving. ( also figured it would go away). Drove it about 45 miles the other day & I noticed it wanted to stall, stopped at a red light, light turned green i took off, car turned off in the middle of the street! Calling dealer today see what they say. I'll keep you posted.

Mine is doing the exact same thing 23 challenger GT I'm in the process of the lawyer for lemon law taking mine to the dealer a 3 rd time since buying it for this issue and they are no help

YAmac -- I am having almost the same issue you are experiencing with the exception of hearing the thud under the driver seat. My 2023 Scat Pack just dies while I am driving down the road. I only have 619 miles on the car. I had it towed back to the dealer it took 1 week to get a fuel pump module and install it. Picked up the Challenger drove it home the next day went out started it, let run and it just quit and wouldn't restart. According to the work order the part they "tested and replaced" was 14500107 Module/Pump, Fuel. They also list 68494744AC Module-Fuel Pump/Level Unit.

I am just wondering if they were able to determine what was causing the problem with your SXT? This will be the 3rd time in the first 619 miles the car is going back to the dealer. The first time was for a dead battery. I appreciate any input.

Hello, I just had the exact same thing happen to me with my 2023 Challenger GT V6 it happened exactly the same and no codes came up and I am not sure what to do because I know the dealership is going to tell me the same thing. Did you ever find out what the problem was?

I am having thr exact same issue happen with my 2023 Challenger GT V6 and I'm not sure what to do. It happened 3 times at different stop lights when I tried to start driving. It was in traffic so it was extreamly dangerous. Also for some reason there is no button showing to send you guys a message?
