OOkay guys, I’m sure you are tired of me asking questions. I am just getting a little nervous because I am about to finalize the deal on my Challenger and want to make sure I’ve covered everything.
So my latest question is this: Would you prefer the 3.92 or 3.73 gears?
The vehicle I am looking at comes with the 27F pack which includes 6-speed, Track Pak and a few other goodies. One of those items is 3.73 gears. The only way to get the 3.92 gears is by adding the 20” wheel package. I like the look of the wheels, but hate the fact they are “chrome clad”. Therefore, I don’t really want to pony up the extra $1,350 for the wheels/gear upgrade.
To add a layer of complexity, my local dealer is locating and dealer-trading to get the car I want. We’ve found one without the wheel upgrade and one with the wheel upgrade. If I take the vehicle with the wheel upgrade, I would likely request he trade wheels to a normal set of 18” RT wheels; therefore, yielding me 3.92 gears and an 18” wheel pack plus I don’t have to spend the extra money.
I suspect 3.73’s with 18’s will perform like 3.92’s with 20’s. The problem is I anticipate upgrading the 18” wheels at sometime in the future and I don’t know if I will stay at 18” or go to 20”. One thought I had was to find a used set of SRT wheels, which are 20”. Then I’d be rolling with 20” wheels and 3.73 gears, and I’m not sure how I will suffer performance-wise.
Anyone care to weigh in on this? Am I just way over-thinking it?
