Apple CarPlay Interface

Hi forum,
I rented a vehicle last week that had apple Carplay and really liked it. I have a 2016 and there is no update to carplay. I researched interfaces and I have found two. Some of the videos show operation is done through turns knobs and not through the touchscreen. Has anyone installed an interface for apple Carplay or swapped out the 8.4 for a later model with apple carplay, thanks in advance.

That really depends on how OEM you want your car to look and run. If you have the STP option then getting rid of the radio removes the Sport option. If you dont have STP or Sport mode then going with an after market radio gets you car play, however after you get everything else that is needed to work with your car's SW controls you are almost certainly at or around 1100 if you do the install yourself + another 6-900 to have a professional install it. You are at or above the 1500 for the OEM radio that will work out of the box with your car and you can do the swap in 20-30 minutes yourself easy.
Now that Waze and Google Maps are available for CarPlay those 2 apps make it worth while for me.
I have had the 17 radio in my 16 car now for almost 2 years, that and adding custom purple Heated/Cooled leather seats are the best 4000 dollars I spent on my car if you would ask me.

Carplay is ok. If you dont have NAV, its nice to be able to use apple or google maps for navigation. Aside from that, you arent missing much. I have an android phone too and android auto is even worse. Very drab looking with the only advantage to me being google maps navigation. I wouldnt go out of my way to add it. Just wait for it for the next car.

The 8.4 radio without the NAV also supports the Performance Pages for the Super Track Pack so that is not a concern, it's only the little 5.0 or 7.0 radios that are the issue.

I like the factory NAV, I always look at the route on my phone before I go anywhere unfamiliar to get an idea which way I want to go and then I put my phone away. When using the phone for NAV, it seems that somebody is all always calling at the worst possible time and screwing you up when you're trying to figure out where to turn, I'd just rather have the factory NAV and it has worked fine for me.
