Hello all. Newbie here. I plan on getting a Demon 170. But i am getting leery. My question is. I hear some talk that these engines are already in short supply. And may not be around in the near future. I would plan on keeping the car long term. Until extended warranty runs out. If i unfortunately end up needing a new engine down the road. I don't want to end up not getting it replaced with the factory engine. Is there some truth to this? Thanks!

That engine is just like any other part. When it’s discontinued, it’s discontinued.

Welcome from Kentucky! If you have the money to get a Demon 170 just spend a little more and get a spare engine and put it away. Hope it works out for you. Post some pictures, we like pictures.👍

I wouldn’t worry about it. The manufacturer has to support that car for a certain amount of time (10 years?) and I know that they sell the demon 170 motors on DC as a crate motor. Dodge has been using those crates for warranty work for d170’s that have blown up but they will replenish their supply of these crate motors.
Just follow the break in procedures and you’ll be fine. I’d recommend a hellcat specific/only forum as there is way more info on there than in here.

I was thinking about getting rid of my redeye and getting a D170 myself but it’s a “one trick” pony if you know what I mean. But it does that one thing better than anyone. If your going to take it to the strip it is a beast and you’ll love it.

A manufacturer needing to support a vehicle for x-amount of years is an urban legend.

No worries! Direct Connection C-170 Crate Hemi Engine. Same as the Challenger Demon 170 Engine : The Hellephant C170 6.2L Supercharged Crate HEMI® Engine include several upgrades to optimize cylinder pressure capability and deliver maximum performance on premium or E85 fuel configurations. This engine is capable of 1,025 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 945 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,200 rpm on E85 ethanol blend. This is your chance to have the heart of the world's most powerful muscle car ever built. ( currently on back order )

Hope you get your dream car, It's quite the machine IMO. Speaking of one trick ponies, 18 Demon was a multi trick pony. Best in 1/4 mile, best top speed 211 MPH, shortest stopping distance from 60 to 0 and fastest 0 to 60 times. With 315 front and rear it can handle corners quite well too. Sure the 170 can do a couple as well...

good luck getting one of those

No. It’s 10 years. If they have changed that I would like to see proof? Doesn’t matter anyway, because the Dodge brand will probably only be around another year or so. They have nothing left to offer.
It’s not 10 years and it never has been.

Oh brother, I wish I could say I was in the market for a 170. You are faced with a once in life time experience to own and drive a car like this and your entertaining the the possible downside? Come on live a little , you only go around once.
Reach for the gusto and enjoy everyday you slide behind the wheel and every mile. Oh and welcome from Wisconsin.

Figured that when the add ended with, On Back Order! No problem, picked one up with some sheet metal around it...

Nope, was never 10 years, that's been an urban myth at least since the 60s. When I worked for AMC back in the 70s, there were already parts for the 68-70 AMX that were unobtanium by 1973. I would talk to the guy in HQ where I worked who would try to source some parts for people. I remember asking him about the 10 year myth, and once he stopped laughing, explained it was BS!
