JBA Shorty Headers - OK with no tune?

I've got a 2012 RT 5.7L six speed and want to add some JBA shorty headers. I live in MD with strict emissions so the shortys seem like the obvious choice. My real question is this: I used to have a Durango that I put shortys on and seemed I got a little more response and definitely a deeper rumble in the exhaust note, and this was without a tune. I've been reading here tunes for headers are a no go yet for the '12's, and obviously performance expectations are different than from the truck, but I thought with this bolt on, you can roll as is and be fine. My concern is I've been reading here about people talking about running lean and needing to "add fuel?"

Any insight/comments/recommendations much appreciated.

You should not need a tune for the the shorties at all. You can also run long tubes with out a tune how ever a tune would optimize it. You may also consider a used set of SRT manifolds. They are basicly shorty headers.

Just don't add a canned DS tune with the shorties. Shorties lean the A/F ratio and so does the tune. Either alone is fine but together too risky, at least for me. Custom tune is ok with shorties.
