Well, I was washing my R/Tl this morning, and I went to pull the hose so I could rinse the taillight section. The hose caught under the front wheel, so I gave it a good yank to pull it free (instead of doing it right and walking to the front of the car to free it). The hose did come free, but it slapped up against the rear quarter. No big deal, right? Wrong!!!!

After I finished drying the car, I noticed 5 or 6 vertical scratches in the paint finish - I got that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach - not good! I figured it had to be the #$%^ hose!

It made me sick, thinking about it - I try so hard to take care of my car and protect it from such harm. But then I remembered a topic here at the forum where a member (Bretster RT) used a Meguiars product to successfully remove scratches from his car that a vandal had inflicted!

So I did a forum search and found the post from May, and the product name - Meguiars ScratchX 2.0. So I ran down to the local auto parts store and got some! I wasn't optimistic - so many products don't work as advertised - but I figured Bretster's damage had to be worse - so it was worth a try.

10-15 minutes of careful application with a cotton towel, and a bit of elbow grease and VOILA!!! The scratches are GONE!!!! And the ScratchX even removed a minor factory paint blemish on the trunk that had irritated me for some time.

This is GOOD stuff, and I highly recommend if you've any minor scratches. It's $10 for a tube, but to return your beloved car's paint to original factory condition is worth every cent!

It does work well.

Our 4 month old GC SRT8 had an unfortunate encounter with a garage door sliding on the hood when the door opener chain broke.

It looked bad to start with but after a few minutes with Scratch X you can only see any remaining evidence when the sun or light hits just right.

It didn't totally remove the damage but it did an amazing job of hiding it.

I doubt anybody that didn't know it was there would ever notice it.

....while their old version worked well for spot treatments too (I still have a couple of old tubes), version 2.0 is based on their relatively newer SMAT technology (super micro-abrasive technology). Ultimate Compound, Scratch-X and Swirl-X are the consumer versions while the professional line consists of products like the popular M105 and M205. The consumer version works well by hand or DA. The main difference in these polishes are that they are non-diminishing. The abrasives don't break down. The consumer line has a long work time to boot (before the carrier oils dissipate/dry out). ....which helps make them bubba-proof. Good products overall.

Guys,

My car stays parked in a carport with a car cover. Well I've had the car cover off for a few days because I want to wash the car before covering again. Last night while putting out the trash I decide to take a shortcut and decided to take a path in front of the car with the recycle bin. I wound up putting a 1" surface scratch on the front bumper. My heart sank to say the least. I had an earlier version of scratch X that came with one of those Christmas car detailing packs I got like three years ago. I rubbed the heck out of the scratch and wound up being amazed at the results. The scratch has almost disappeared. If I spend a little more time on it (and I will) I bet I can get rid of the scratch all together. Scratch X is my new best detailing friend that I'll put to good use on my other cars. Yes I've learned my lesson. Car is washed & the cover is on. I will never take a short cut anywhere near the car when carrying any large objects. Later.

I'll be putting this product to the test tomorrow morning. Today at work, I parked in the "nice-car-parking" lot like I always do, which is a parking lot that is much further than most people care to walk. And of course, when I came out at the end of the day, some dipwad in a friggin' Corolla has parked right beside me, even though there were plenty of spaces in the normal lot with all the other Corollas, Civics, and Saturns. I looked down the side to check for dings, and didn't see anything, but was in too much of a hurry to get the frak out of there to really examine the car like I should have.

Later, I noticed the scratch. About a foot long, right above the curved line in the body on the rear quarter panel. Not real deep, but enough to really piss me off. Right at the height of, say, a laptop bag slung around a dipwad's shoulder.

So, again, I'll be testing the Scratch-X product tomorrow morning (too hot and humid out there to do it tonight). I'll try to post up some pics; hopefully it'll work out well. If not, I know a local body shop that does great work and will give me a good deal.

Well hell's bells, this stuff is pretty great! I've attached some before-and-after pics (sorry about the cell phone quality) to give you all an idea of what I was dealing with. That scratch is completely gone! And I do mean completely! Not a trace. God, I love Meguiar's stuff. They make it very easy for non-professionals to get great results without risking anything.

I just put a few dabs on with a soft cotton cloth, rubbed it a bit, then buffed it with the other side of the cloth. I finished up with some Meguiar's Quick Detailer to shine it up. Awesome.

Thanks for the pictures, that looks wonderful. I have a black car and I have some small clear coat marks on the nose of the car, anyone know if this kind of stuff works on clear coat?

....well, the exterior of your car is "clear coated". What type of marks are they? Abrasions, scuffs, scratches, etc? ....or are you talking about clear coat issues from the factory during the painting process (i.e. fish eyes, trapped dust, etc.)? A polish like Scratch-X may be able to help with the former but not the latter.

I had a little light blemish in the clear coat on the trunk lid - not a scratch. ScratchX took it right out - looks perfect now. I can't guarantee it will fix your problem, Exce, but it's worth a try. If nothing else, you can keep the ScratchX for when you do get a scratch - it's more a question of 'when' than 'if'.

Scratch-X 2.0 and Ultimate Compound are two of my favorite OTC polishes. I've successfully tackled minor swirls / scratches with Scratch-X and more severe stuff with Ultimate Compound, then Scratch-X.

Also, always be sure to follow-up with a coat of wax / sealant, because the abrasives remove your protective finishes.

I have bubbling in the clearcoat near the front edge of the hood but I guess I need to get the dealer to fix it. Black 2010 R/T

Jay6spdRT - Glad that my original post about Meguiar's ScratchX product helped you out. I swear by Meguiar's products and have used them for years. I like black cars, my car show cruiser a '70 GTO, 2 black Mustang GT's I used to have and my current R/T, they are all treated with Meguiar's products.

TxChallenger23 you can buy these at any auto parts stores including Walmart and Autozone. They do work great.
