Hey all - I wanted to share some initial impressions I have on the new Nitto Motivo tires I have on my 2012 SRT8.

Overall for what they are (high treadware rated all season tires) - they are pretty darn good for the power I'm putting down. I live in NJ and see everything - hot summers, very cold winters, rain, snow, etc... and changing tires ever 6 months isn't in my plan book so A/S tires makes sense for me.

Noise: These are much more quiet vs. OEM. They give a luxury type feel to my commute as far as cabin noise levels. Nice and quiet over various road surfaces.

Dry Grip: Again, considering these are not 200AA rated dedicated summer tires, they do have impressive dry grip. They will kick loose if I punch it rolling at 30mph, but almost any tire will excpet for a few dedicated drag radials. WHen I need crazy grip at the track - I run dedicated drag radials :)

Wet Grip: Excellent. These have possibly the most confidence inspiring feel in wet conditions. Their 4 deep water channeling grooves are pretty large. You can tell Nitto wanted to make these perform excellent in the wet - and they do!

Snow: I've had these in light snow, to about 4 inches of snow. Being a rear wheel drive car that makes 450rwhp, you have to take it easy. Don't drive like an idiot and these will get you where you need to go, even on a 450rwhp car in 4 inches of snow.

Appearance: For A/S tires - they have a nice sporty look to the sidewall. I love the look. Some A/S tires just look ugly... these have an appeal, while still being an A/S tire.

Overall I would consider these to be a slight touch above the Connty DWS tires (owned them previously as well). These are more sporty in both drive and looks, but have the same long life (well, I guess time will tell) - as the DWS. Anyone considering the DWS, I would consider these as well. So far - I love them for their intended purpose.

Did you go with stock size Motivo's for replacements? My 255s up front and 275s in the rear actually outperform the stock F1s IMO. Obviously, cold weather performance is great and I agree they're much quieter and cushioning. I'm loving them so far.

I have them too and would agree with all your points, except that I haven't tried them in snow. If they come close to the mileage warranty, they will be a great value. Just wondering, did your 2012 need new tires already?? If so, congrats for driving the car so hard!

Just curious as to how an all season could possibly outperform a performance rated tire.
I know the Goodyears get a bad rap here, but lets not forget what company is doing the majority of R & D in the racing world.
I guess the variable here is the definition of performance. My cars never see snow , but it will see 170 mph.

The OEM tires on my 392 were the Goodyear All Season RSA's...

The Nitto's are a nice all around tire, but they will not outperform a dedicated summer tire, no.

Another fly in the ointment to that (I've been informed) is that the treadwear warranty kind of goes out the window for cars where a standard tire rotation cannot be done (i.e., a staggered size configuration). If service life is a concern, you should be sure to discuss this with someone at the tire mounting shop, to ask what mileage they would actually honor warranty coverage if you use those tires in a staggered setup. You can't rotate front to back, but you may get some leeway if they are non-directional and can be rotated side to side. If they are unidirectional, then all bets are off, and definitely get the word on what mileage is under warranty coverage for that tire in that usage scenario (you might be surprised).

(my remarks are in the context of *any* tire you might choose, not anything to do with Motivo's specifically)

Thank you mdgrwl for the review as I had just priced a set of Motivos over the weekend to replace my RSA's. $1045 with 3 year free replacement for non repairable damage, Free road hazard and rotation at Discount Tire local location with excellent references. Yeah, I'm in.

Got these tires a few months ago except I did 255s all around so I can rotate. The tires are head and shoulders better than the Goodyear Supercars they replaced and handle good in wet and dry.

I'd really like to see some pics of the 255's all around..

thanks..

Just installed the Nitto Motivo's 275/40-20 on all four corners (2010 SRT)

Didn't want to go with the staggered setup due to not being able to rotate them every 5000 miles.

Great ride! Very quiet! Haven't taken them to the limit yet or been in the rain. So far very happy with 'em.

Do you have any issues with rubbing in the front? I've got a 2012 SRT8 and am debating about putting the Motivo 275/40/20 on all 4 corners. Would LOVE to be able to rotate and get a 275 under the rear.

Thanks!

Got 245 front and 255 rear. Great ride and grip during wet and snow. The traction on these are night and day compared to the oem tires.

Love my Motivos, running 245 up front 275 in the rear and they kick the crap out of the F1s that my car came with and the Kuhmos I had on her prior to the Motivos

Well today my Motivos for the rear are arriving, and Monday should have the fronts here, but no wheels have even shipped yet to mount them to. I went to them because I am going to be running 245/55/18" fronts and 275/40/20 rears, on Boss 3386 rims which the 18"x8"s are available now but the 20"x10" are back ordered for 5-6 weeks. Talked to friends running the front tire sizes, and expect a bit more under steer in the curves, but I wanted the staggered rim look, could have gone with the 420S Nittos in 255/55/18 and 285/40/20 but after reading threads on these Motivos, went with the thinner higher speed rated tires, tho the 420Ss do have a nicer looking tread. :D

Had these installed last Saturday by a very professional staff at Discount Tire. 245/45-20 all 4 corners as stock.

No noticeable noise. Tar strips and road joints are much quieter and the ride is butter smooth. This initially worried me that the tires may be too soft and may squirm through cornering. Other than the first initial curves less than a mile from install (green greasy tires=a little pucker factor) these tires are very stable. Turn in and directional transitions are precise. Corners are more my thing rather than straight lines so I haven't done a hard launch yet but they feel like they should be fairly easy to keep hooked up when doing so. This is the last test to be done other than snow which I'm not in a hurry to see soon.

Drove over 150 miles that day in the wet. By wet I mean from light shower to driving rain. Never did I feel uncomfortable and at one point pushed to 80 mph through a down pour just to see what they would feel like. Looking through the rear view I could still clearly see a tread pattern behind the car. Did a low speed test dropping to 2nd from about 40 mph with a fairly hard hammer down, TC off (w/button) and the car stayed hooked. That's pretty damned good wet traction in my estimation.

No snow driving and I'm good with that! By the looks of the tread pattern these tires should do well in moderate snow. Wide channels and a good amount of separation between tread blocks should shed snow well and provide good snow traction next winter.

I think they are sexy tires with the diagonal sipes and assymetric pattern.

I am comparing these to the thoroughly worn RSAs that went 27,000 miles before surrendering. There really is no comparison between the two though. The Goodyears NEVER felt this good and even when new squirmed and then scrubbed during cornering. I am a realist and do not think these tires will live for 60,000 miles per the tread wear warranty. If I can get 40 out of them I'll be impressed. Overall I agree with mdgrwl with his review of this tire and would at this point highly recommend them to others as well.

some more picks.
by the way, stock TPMS (I bought a new complect) fitted with no issues.
Tyre pressure is 1.9 bar all way round and after gearing up to 200 kmh and above the pressure raise to 2.2 bar.
In front 245 is less then 1 cm close to suspension arm. I think that 255/55/R18 rubbed in front. rear wheels no problem at all.

Hammered mine kinda hard this morning during a left hand turn (dry) and got a second gear drift. These things hook well.

Again these are new tires with less than 1,000 miles.

I replaced my stock F1's on my 2010 SRT8 with stock size staggered Motivo's a couple of months ago, overall I think they are just a little softer feeling and have a little less dry grip than the F1's, (F1's had about 10,000 miles on them when removed) however that is more than made up for in the rain. The F1's were white knuckle driving any time a small afternoon shower would hit, by contrast I don't give driving in heavy rain a second thought with the Motivo's

Could anyone add anymore input about these tires? Mostly in reference to dry traction, straightline traction, and sidewall stiffness. This is one of the only threads I've found for these tires being used on a high hp car. I would be using them for my supercharged M3 putting down around 400 to the wheels. I'm currently running 255/40r17 Z1 Star Specs in the back and 235/40r17 Yokohama S-drive in the front and easily break the tires loose in first and second. My fear is that these will be a significant downgrade in terms of dry traction giving me more issues hooking up but I'm hoping someone could give a bit of a comparison to an extreme performance summer tire. Will I be sorely disappointed in traction or responsiveness? Will I have too much trouble hooking up? The OP said he can break the tires loose at 30 if he punches it but he's running a slightly wider tire, larger wheels, and more weight than I am. Was simply hoping to get some more feedback before pulling the trigger since there is very little info or reviews on these tires, especially in high hp applications. Thanks guys

.02 I have no complaints regarding the Nitto Motivo's. Super quiet on the highway was a must and after researching a ton of tires, this one seemed to fit the bill. Been very pleased with the traction as well in the dry and even wet conditions. I haven't been out to the road course to give a 10/10 <on edge> review, but they do hold very well on street/backroad curves.

Not sure about punching it at 30mph to break them loose. Before and after the supercharger install, if I'm at 30mph, the car takes off without breaking loose. From a dead stop though, nothing besides a sticky drag radial or slicks can contain a WOT start.

I would not trade them for anything else at this point. Again, hearing tire noise while driving on the highway each day (60mile r/t) is a pet peeve and have to avoid at all cost. With the Corsa Xtreme + Motivo's = bliss @80mph.

Glad I happened across this thread. I was fishing around for replacement 235.55.18s and found some Nitto Motivo info, starting at Discount Tire.

I don't have a Chally yet, if I do get one these look like the plan. Too bad most OE tires leave something to be desired. That's why I almost always replace my OE tires before or shortly after we roll out of the dealership.
